We’re excited to welcome new owners to Ace Camps Travel, Vida Forrest y Salazar and Tanya Staples.

Before losing her brave and determined journey with cancer, our founder, Angela Ritchie, was in the process of selling Ace Camps Travel. Angela wanted to ensure the vision and community she built would continue to grow and thrive. Together with the Ace Camps Travel team, Angela decided to transition ownership to Vida and Tanya.

Vida and Tanya have worked together for more than a decade. They share a passion for travel, a love for education, and can usually be found nerding out over crafty endeavors. Tanya met Angela and Jessica Stuart-Crump, our Director of Trip Design, on a trip to Laos. She fell in love with the concept and community of Ace Camps Travel, leading her to join other trips. Vida just took a year-long career break to travel the world, visiting local artisans and learning about traditional handcrafts. Angela felt their passion and experience was the right fit to lead Ace Camps Travel into the future.

A Hello from Vida and Tanya:
Honored and excited doesn’t begin to describe how we feel about joining the Ace Camps Travel team. We met over a decade ago and our friendship grew deep as we discovered our mutual love of travel, food, culture, and art. When the opportunity arose to work with Angela to transition the company, we felt an enormous sense of gratitude. We love how Ace Camps Travel brings together artists and travelers, creating the perfect environment for inspiration to strike, creativity to flow, and connections to bloom.

What you can expect:
We fell in love with all the things that make Ace Camps Travel special and we don’t plan on changing any of that—you can expect more amazing trips featuring unique destinations, talented artists, and inspiring experiences, all crafted with the same care and attention to detail you’ve come to know and love.

Shikoku, Japan opens for registration Friday July 21 at 9am PST. Explore the Art Islands of the Seto Inland Sea, the crafts of Shikoku and the history of Japanese Indigo in Tokushima.
Full trip details https://acecampstravel.com/shikoku
Trip Dates: November 21 - 29, 2023

Shikoku, Japan’s smallest major island, is located about 150 miles southwest of Kyoto and offers a perfect blend of natural beauty, spiritual pilgrimage, and cultural treasures. Our Ace Camp takes us to three distinct regions of Shikoku where we explore modern and traditional arts and crafts.

We will visit Takamatsu, a captivating city known for its rich cultural heritage, impeccable gardens, and a unique culinary scene. We’ll visit traditional craft shops, Ritsurin Gardens ~ one of the country's most exquisite gardens and learn to make traditional sweets, a specialty of this region.

From here we will visit the Art Islands of the Seto Inland Sea, including Naoshima, Teshima and the lesser know Inujima. These islands showcase incredible contemporary art and design museums, galleries and installations. Visiting the Art Islands is not just about the artworks themselves but also about the integration of art into the fabric of the islands. The vivid contrast between the pastoral island scenery and the contemporary art is note-worthy.

Our final destination is Tokushima, the city renowned for its rich tradition of Awa Indigo dyeing. Aizome (the practice of traditional indigo dyeing) in Tokushima dates back over 800 years, and the prefecture’s location is key to the development of the practice. The Yoshino River that runs through northern Tokushima irrigates the surrounding land, providing an ideal environment for the cultivation of the Japanese indigo plant (Perisicaria tinctoria). We will visit and learn with traditional makers and world leading contemporary dyers.
