This is our last day onboard. We will arrive back in Miami in the early morning. These last two days were sea days and rather quiet for us. We've been to a few trivia games, karaoke and game shows. We've seen a few great entertainers as well. Andy had his favourite hot stone aroma therapy massage. We attended a disco dance show and an 80's dance show with the entertainment team.
All our bags are nearly packed, just have a few things out for overnight and warm clothes for the flight home.
Tonight after dinner we will go see the Queen tribute with Velvet or as Andy says Dad and the kids. After that we plan to catch the late night comedy show, a different comedian this time.

After a great day in Antigua, we enjoyed a great evening of entertainment on board. After dinner we caught an ice skating show- spectacular. Then off to a game show called Love and Marriage, almost like the newly wed game. Then we caught a set by Dad and the kids (Velvet) to close out the night.
Today we are in Grenada, known as the spice island.

Today we are in Antigua in the port at St. John's. We tried something we haven't done before. Antigua Rum Tour. Lots of fun, a whole new experience. Explanations with each picture.
After posting I'm going to have a nap. Started drinking way too early today!

Yesterday we were in St Thomas, Charlotte Amalie. Trivia - did you know it got its name from a Danish king who named it for his wife.
We got off the ship and onto a boat that took us to the island of St John where we did an island tour. Three quarters of the island is US National park, as the island is one of the US Virgin islands. Beautiful crystal clear waters and lots of beautiful beaches.
Last evening we enjoyed great entertainment starting with a comedian juggler, disco party and classical guitar. Another great day in paradise.

On a more serious note about the Dominican Republic, we totally enjoyed the Ecolodge. It is a farm to table operation. If they don't grow it, it is sourced out to the local farmers. The lodge makes its own coffee, herbal teas, jams, honey and soaps.
They have hundreds of flowering plants and fruit trees and are experimenting with other species. We sampled some local food as well. They are totally eco-friendly.

Yesterday was a sea day. Lots of folks everywhere. I stayed out of the sun because I'm as red as cooked lobster. We had a light lunch at the Promenade Cafe then decided to try our hand at Bingo. We are not Bingo players but they had this tablet thing that really did everything for you. All you had to do was shout Bingo if you won. Then we caught the end of Michael Jackson trivia. It was a formal night so we went back to our state room to freshen up. Formal night has changed quite a bit over the years but we like to dress up. Don't usually post pics of us but I am today. Also added a few pictures from around the ship. I found my first duck today and our state room attendant made the towel duck.
After dinner we went to karaoke. We are not singers. It was the first round of singers for the Karaoke competition at the end of the cruise. Dad and the Kids were playing Latin music in another lounge but we didn't hang around too long at that.

Andy and I had a great evening last night. We went to a couple of game shows ( look out, Drama Club cast and crew party). That was followed by a comedy show, then we went dancing at the Star Lounge. The band's name is Velvet but Andy has renamed them, Dad and the kids. The guitar player is much older than the others but they are a very talented group.

Today was the end of the first part of our cruise so, we were back to the port of Miami. Folks on the short cruise leave the ship and we pick up new folks for the next 9 days. The cruise line provided lunch for the consecutive cruisers. Otherwise it was a relaxing day

Funny how quickly time goes by when you are on vacation.
Yesterday I took my high blood pressure pill, cholesterol pill and stress pill with a pina colada on the pool deck.The port of call was Labadee, occupying half of Haiti. It's one of the private islands owned by Royal Caribbean Cruise Line. We have been here before so we chose to stay on the ship. We knew from past experience that 90 percent of the passengers would go to the island so it would be very quiet on board. We caught some sun on the pool deck and I had the hot tub to myself.
Labadee has changed over the last 20 or so years. First time we were here, it was just a beach and a few walking trails with a barn that was a marketplace for local residents. There was a fence between the locals and the tourists. Haiti is one of the poorest islands.
Now the Royal owned side is a million dollar operation with zip lines, water park, jet ski, snorkeling excursions and coastal catamaran cruises. All at additional costs.

There are so many things to see and do in Jamaica. Dunn's River falls is likely the biggest attraction. We've been to a few of the beautiful beaches, we've been river rafting, we've done the Jamaican bobsled run, just to name a few of the tourist attractions.

Sorry for the long essay of the last two posts.
Today we are in beautiful Jamaica.We have been here before so we just wandered around the port area. Andy has an authentic jerk beef patty and we sampled some Jamaican rum and liqueurs. People are so friendly.

We boarded The Explorer of the Seas on Sunday. As you may know, it's been colder than normal in Miami. The winds were high. The ship was rocking. Not too many braved the cold to be by the pool.
Our first day was a sea day so no port. Still too cold to be by the pool. I will share pictures of the ship another day We caught up on our sleep in the afternoon. Last night we had a lovely dinner in the dining room, went to the song and dance show then to the late night adult comedy show. Then it was off to bed for Andy and off to the casino for me. I'm two-thirds of the way to another instant cruise certificate. My day ended at 2:45.

Finally, the first warm vacation day and we are on the beautiful island of Jamaica. One Love!
It was a crazy day Saturday. The original plan was to be picked up by the limo service at 8:00am for a 12:00 flight out of Pearson, direct to Miami. At 7:20, we got a notice that our flight was cancelled and we would be notified of our new flight. By 7:30 we were notified that we would be flying to Washington first with a three hour layover then off to Miami. Rescheduled the driver for an 11:00 pickup. By the time we got to the airport, the flight to Washington showed a delay of three hours. It would now arrive in Washington 4 minutes after our connection.
Rescheduled again - next available flight was at 8:35
pm. We decided to take it but it meant a long wait at the airport. We found a lounge that had something that looked like concrete lounge chairs. Because I'm a night hawk, I was operating on two hours of sleep so I was able to fall asleep on this concrete slab.
Finally, on the plane bound for Miami. Arrived just after
midnight and found a cab to the hotel. So glad I learned long ago to fly one day ahead of the cruise.
Thank God for our safe arrival.

Last thing I said was we were on Standby. We did get on the flight and just didn't sit together. The Athens airport experience was the scariest of all airports so far .

We are at the airport in Athens. Just found out that our flight was overbooked so we are on Standby. Don't know how that happens when you buy a ticket almost 11 months in advance. We are just waiting for our fate. May get an extra paid night in Athens.???

Today is Monday and I am still behind in recording our stops. We are off the cruise ship now and in Athens. We booked a tour for today, so much walking. We climbed up to the Acropolis. I've some great photos. Again, great history lesson in ancient civilizations.
But now, we are in our hotel room. I booked it separately from the cruise ship and based on reviews on hotels.com.

Yesterday we were at Santorini. We had a great day sailing along the coast and along the volcanic islands of Greece. Views were spectacular. The crew on the catamaran found a couple of coves suitable for swimming and snorkeling. We have souvlaki with tiziki, a very delicious bread and potato salad. Lots of fun and laughter.
Later in the day, we took a cable car to the top of the island. Lovely shopping and beautiful views.

Today was an amazing day. We were in Turkey or Turkiya as the locals call it. Did not know what to expect but it is beautiful. The port is Kusadas. We took a tour bus to Ephesus. Ephesus is a World Heritage site as well as home to one of the Seven Wonders of the World. It plays an important role in Christianity as well. Mary, the mother of Jesus Christ spent her later years here with St. John. It is said that John built a house for her, a promise that he made to Jesus take care of her. When he was exiled for preaching Christianity, Mary Was allowed to remain. We were able to tour the home and the grounds. Also visited the grave of John in the Church of St John ruins. Paul wrote letters to the Ephesians here and it is believed that the Book of Revelations was written here.
So much history here dating back to before Christ. Sorry if it looks like a bunch of rocks but it is fascinating to see these ruins.

Still catching up. Yesterday was a sea day so I made the best of it and caught up on my sleep.
Today we are at Santorini. Here are the first views from our balcony. This is a tender stop so we are not close to shore. We are going on a catamaran along the Caldera of Santorini. May get to dip my toes into the Mediterranean today.

Another amazing day. It started at 6:00 this morning and we returned at 5:00. I'm so tired. We just have time to wash up before supper. The weather has been so beautiful, 25 to 30 every day with bright sunshine. We've met folks from all over. Lots of Australian folks. Met some folks from Kingston today as well. He grew up in Scarborough and she in Montreal. They are very familiar with our neck of the woods.
Today's port was Salerno and a cruise along the coast to Amalfi. Then we took a coach tour to Pompeii. Pictures to follow.

I'm still catching up. Today we are off to Salerno along the Amalfi coast. More about that later. To finish telling you about last week, I still have to do Portofino, Pisa and Florence.
Past Saturday we did three small seaside ports, Portofino, Santa Margherita and Rapallo. In Portofino we climbed up a steep hill to take a look at the port below. A climb like that tells you just how out of shape you are.

The second part of the day was Monte Carlo. It was about a 40 minute drive from Monaco. Again beautiful villas and hotels built into the hills. Again, everything looked rich; the clothing, the cars, the villas. And then there was the Grand Casino. There is a really interesting story about how the casino came about.
I was able to take photos in the entrance of the casino but you had to pay 18 euro to get into the gaming floor. I do enjoy gambling but we only had 30 minutes and there were so many other things to see. Our guide told us that there were cameras everywhere watching everything. Also a large presence of police. Hope you enjoy the pictures.

It's been a few days since I told you what we were up to. I guess I didn't read all the print for our excursions because I've had us up every day at 6:00 and heading one place or another by 7 or 7:30. We've been on the go all day returning to the ship at 5:30 or 6.
Let me go back to the day we spent at Monaco and Monte Carlo. Oh my, everything is so ritzy. Beautiful yachts, beautiful scenic countryside. Old Monaco is the smallest independent country. The royal palace sits high up on a hill overlooking the gorgeous french riviera. The beautiful cathedral is where the royal family has been laid to rest. The Rainiers and Princess Grace are all there.
I put a bit of detail with every picture. Next I will post Monte Carlo.

Today, we are in Genoa, Italy. The cruise ship dock is in an industrial area and a short walk to town. We didn't have anything in particular planned for today. Andy has a cold and although I packed cold remedies I didn't pack a nasal spray. So we took a walk to the local Farmacia. No problem there, we got what we needed. We also stopped in a small shop, similar to a newspaper stand that you would find in any train station. It was for guornali. Found a few things in there. Got to practice my Italian. The clerk knew what I meant and applauded my Italian.
Other than that, we won at 50's and 60's music trivia this afternoon. Had a great birthday dinner in the dining room.
Tonight we are going to the 50's dance party and a magic show. Later, I will be off to the casino. I have doubled my money so far.
Tomorrow we are off to Monaco and Monte Carlo.

Yesterday was a sea day. We took it easy. I caught up on my sleep. Andy treated himself to a hot stones aromatic massage. Sorry this is out of order. It was formal night in the dining room. After dinner we stopped by a few of the music venues before going to the theatre to hear a group called Four Ever. They were like the four tenors and sang every from Queen to Michael Buble to the opera.
We have hidden 5 ducks so far. They have all been picked up. Haven't found one yet! Still hunting 😊
