Just finished yet another hooded bog jacket. Not so plain, not so boring because I found a pretty black and white ribbon in my stash that was perfect for this project. Added a few toggle closures and it’s good to go. Coming soon to .nextdoor

Had such a fun day, thrifting with a friend. Scored some beautiful wool blankets.
They will become something for the .nextdoor except I might have to keep the beige one because it’s so so pretty. Stay tuned.

I’ve always loved vacations/travel. Always so look forward to the next trip. But lately a strange thing has been happening. Before I even leave, I’m looking forward to coming home. Weird! Is it partly just getting older and loving my home? Maybe. Or is it because I’m looking forward to getting back into my sewing room and working on more projects? Very possible. Either way I have to say that vacations are great but coming home is even better. I’m so blessed!
Here’s a photo of a vacation in beautiful Cuba with my dear friend Norma. She was the best travelling companion. Well, maybe other than my husband, he’s pretty good too. But damn I miss Norma. Rest in peace, my dear.

Circa 1984-ish. Found a blast from the past among my things as I’m cleaning my sewing room.
Here are three jackets/ponchos/pullover sweaters that I designed from some old blankets back in the day. I’d forgotten all about them.

Did a favour for a friend. Couldn’t resist. This collar and cuff set is so damn cute. In general with everything in life, I love multicolour so when I saw this, I had to take it on. Excellent thrifting, Liz. Happy to make the adjustments.

Originally, this was a hand knit, wool pullover sweater from Nepal with three buttons at the neck. I reworked it by cutting it open down the front as well as straight across under the arms. I then inserted soft fleece to lengthen the garment as well as to bind the front edges. I finished it off by fully lining it in that same soft fleece. Perfect for that always cold person.

As a long-time sewist (50+ years) with a certificate in Fashion Design, I have long had a huge interest in up-cycling. As a child, my mother encouraged me to take up sewing as a way to be able to have the clothes we couldn’t afford to buy. As a result, I have spent my life finding ways to re-use the beautiful fabrics I already had at hand. Any textile was fair game. I've been known to use curtains, table cloths, bed sheets and bedspreads to turn into clothing or bags or other household textile items.
Sadly, in part because of the ‘fast fashion’ trend, far too much clothing is tossed in the landfill. My mission is to inspire others to think about the textiles already in our possession and think of new ways for them to be up-cycled.
Are you feeling overwhelmed with the amount of clothing in your closet, yet, still struggle find something to wear? Are you frustrated because your body is changing and so much of your clothing no longer fits? Do you find that when you go clothes shopping, so much of what’s available is the same as in all the stores? It’s time for a change.
Perhaps you would like to have an article of clothing repaired, altered or up-cycled for you, or you have clothing from a loved one who has passed that you’d like to have made into a memory item or maybe you’d like your kids baby clothes made into something special for them as an adult. Let me know your thoughts and we can come up with a plan. The possibilities are limited only to your imagination.
