A quick feed back from our Yukon River Quest race. It was a hard race, despite the high water, mother nature showed up with all it got. From rain over thunderstorms to cold nights and hot days, tail and headwind, we had everything.
This years race was a bit different and not to our favor. Usually, to be very successful in the race you need to be able to read the current and the knowledge of the river, where to find the fastest channels and deepest water is more or less a key factor to win the race. This year we had so much water, that we were more or less just flushed through, doesn't matter where you paddle, it was fast even very close to the shoreline.
Our boat arrived 3 days prior to the race and there was just not enough time for us to customized the seats and steering for our needs. Gus and I suffered from rushes, blisters, wounded butts and swollen feet’s and legs.
We still have 3 days left to recover from our injuries and do a better boat setup before we start on the Yukon 1000, the longest canoe/kayak race in the world. Stay tuned !
