Skywolf K9 Adventures Dogsled Tours

Skywolf K9 Adventures Dogsled Tours Our aim is to introduce Yukoners to the excitement of dogsledding. We offer runs of varying length a All for an affordable price. All safety equipment provided.

Our aim is to introduce people to the excitement of dogsledding with 35 Alaskan huskies and over 20 years of experience running dogs. While the business is new our love for the sport certainly isn't. Tours are Yukon family friendly (age restrictions do apply) with plenty of photo opportunities and hands on involvement. In winter you'll have the opportunity to run your own sled with a team of 4-5 d

ogs. There are 1/2hr or 1hr trips available. You can start out in the sled and switch out with the musher to run the sled yourself. In spring and summer we can show you the excitement of bike-joring and scootering using our dogs. In the fall join us for a training run while we get our dogs ready for race season. Snowboarding helmets are mandatory in winter and bike helmets in spring/summer. Add a kennel tour to your trip to see and learn how our dogs are taken care of and how they spend their days. Please do NOT bring your dog as this is stressful for all involved and do NOT bring treats, we'll provide these for our athletes.

An icon in the mushing world. So saddened to learn of Lance’s passing.

GOD SPEED LANCE MACKEY, WE WILL MISS YOU, REST IN PEACE.

Everyone here at the Canadian Challenge and our global mushing community is remembering Lance Mackey today, and thinking of the amazing and legendary impact that he had on the sport of dog sledding.

Lance died yesterday from cancer, aged just 52, leaving a young family. We send our sincere and deepest condolences to the Mackey family. Know that our love and best wishes are with you at this sad time.

Four-times Iditarod champ Lance became the first musher to win the Iditarod and the Yukon Quest in the same year (2007). Known for his gritty determination, intense passion for his dogs, and for being a great musher in his prime, Lance will be widely missed.

Sleep easy Lance.

Trail report:
Slightly late, but there has been little snow since Friday 10th.
Trail is fine for running on, pad and claw brakes bite above gravel and work well, but in most places the hook does not go in very deep...as you may see in the photos. That was about as far as Jon wanted to get from the hook as the two wheel dogs started bouncing and everything started edging forward...
We still need a little more snow for safe racing to reduce liability issues....and on that point DPSAY has kindly taken over the organisation of the Winterlong Brewing Race Series from Skywolf.

Many thanks for your participation last year, and good luck for the races of this season! Further information on the Winterlong Brewing Race Series should be found on the DPSAY site.

Stay warm and safe and Season's Greetings to you and your Dogs

WINTERLONG BREWING Copper Haul Twister update...
..where is the snow? we have a tantalising amount, tantalising enough to lure Jon out with a six dog team yesterday...which was in the end an error and it still hurts. Dogs loved it tho' "did he scream?" "that was a really loud thump" "great tho, as the sled leaped sideways and into the air it was soo easy to accelerate..and make the thump louder!" "Ha, ha gottim "...sums it up really.

The Copper Haul race trail was also run last Friday 26th with a six dog team, there was a bit of grating from the runners on the gravel in places, and setting the hook was really on a wing and a prayer, in that it wouldn't set.

The snow we had last week increased the level to tantalising...and yesterday's result. So at the moment the trail is unsafe for holding a race day. More snow is in the forecast this coming week, and we'll trial the trail on Friday 10th December - trail report that afternoon.

If it's safe we're looking at Sunday Dec 12th as the season qualifier, and Saturday 18th for a pre-Christmas League race, and we're back on track for having two race days this year.

Winterlong Brewing is the League Sponsor, and day prizes provided by Fox Ridge Farm, Cando Meat and Sausage, Takhini Gas, C&D Feeds, Grizzly Pigs Farm, and Tum Tums Black Gilt Meats.

although the trail does look pretty....
