Canoeing the Pelly River in the early fall has to be one of my favorite wilderness trips! Thousands of migrating cranes, spectacular fall colors, bears and moose and a wonderful mountain scenery...what's not to love?

Wildfires are a regular occurrence in Yukon's wilderness. As part of the natural cycle in the boreal forest lightning caused fires rejuvenate the woods by burning old fuels, fertilizing soil, heat activating seeds and spores and making room for young growth.

Paddling through active forest fires can be dangerous depending on conditions and it is crucial to know how to deal with the risks. On recent trips we had to paddle through a number of fires. In all cases cooler weather and sometimes rain helped to keep conditions reasonable and safe. Smoke was the biggest concern.

As sad as it is to see favorite campsites and beautiful landscapes go up in flames, it is equally fascinating to experience another force of nature from such close distance.

Just back from another wonderful canoe trip. The beautiful Teslin River provided once again! A great week with a good weather mix of pleasantly light rain and scorching sun. We turned our bounty of precious morels and the fresh catch of arctic graylings into delicious forest food. Enjoyed refreshing swims in the cold river, hiked to beautiful view points and soaked in the stunning wilderness of the Yukon! Thanks to Torben and Anja, Jens, Sebastian for a fun week!!!

The first canoe trip of the season under our belt! The Teslin River offers a beautiful multi-day wilderness trip in Canada's Northwest. Relaxed paddling, scenic campsites, good food, promising fishing, spectacular wildlife encounters...that's what it's all about on the Teslin!
This time around we chose a pick up by float plane from Hootalinqua with our friends at Aviation. An amazing pilot and beautiful weather made for a spectacular flight back to Whitehorse. What a treat!

What happens if the Bushcraft Yukon team goes on a pre-season-vaccation?
Follow us along on the beautiful Sunshine Coast Trail north of Vancouver, BC, Canada! We went for one week of backpacking on this beautiful hiking trail. Most of the trail is maintained by various volunteer groups, who do an amazing job of building and marking paths, bridges, and wonderful huts. No registration and booking required! Just show up and enjoy!
The Sunshine Coast Trail is no wilderness trail, but leads through a mix of old growth and forests of secondary growth. Every now and then there is even the opportunity to grab an amazing burger (shout out to the Shingle Mills Pub in Powell River)!

Taro is on fire! Ich hatte das große Vergnügen Taro Gehrmann von Swiss Bushcraft and Survival beim Bushcraft Jamboree 2024 in Deutschland zu treffen. Zum Glück konnte ich eines seiner Bücher ergattern. In den letzten Tagen habe ich mich begeistert durch sein Werk gearbeitet. Was für ein tolles Buch für alle Feuerteufel! Alle Fans von Lagerfeuern kommen hier auf ihre Kosten - egal ob Anfänger oder Profi! Taro gibt viele tolle Hinweise und hilft mit schönen Fotos Schritt für Schritt zum besseren Feuerstarten. Dabei ist alles einfach erklärt, ohne allzu komplizierte Ansätze. Eine klare Empfehlung für dieses tolle Buch!!!

Had a blast the last three days at the in Germany! So many outdoorsy bushcraft enthusiasts coming together to connect, make new friends and share their knowledge and skills at this unique event! A weekend full of presentations, workshops, instructions with amazing opportunities to also check in with some of the leading manufacturers of outdoor, bushcraft and survival gear!

Great line up of instructors and presenters: Susanne Williams, Reini Rossmann, Kyt Lyn Walken Allsopp, Jesper Hede, Pero Moeller, Taro Gehrmann...and so many more!

We shared a booth with our friend and collegue Jesper Hede from Bushcraft Europe. Thanks Jesper and Trine for making the trip from Denmark! Huge thanks to Niklas Schmidt for all the help with logistics and helping out at Jamboree! I really appreciate it!

The Cottonwood Trail in Yukon's Kluane Nationalpark had been on our bucket list for a while. In March 2024 we finally managed to ski this amazing loop and enjoy the mountains at their best! Weather and snow conditions were just spectacular. Sunshine during the days, warmth to dry out gear in the afternoon, and cold nights to keep camping dry and firm up the snow for the next morning. Perfect! We took 5 days for this route, which kept it very enjoyable. We chose pulks over backpacks, which was a great decision. Check out the pictures! Enjoy!

Der Herbst ist fast vorbei und in den nördlichen Breiten fällt bereits der erste Schnee! Winter ist bald da und die Zeit der Skitouren, Schneeschuhwanderungen und Hundeschlitten-Expeditionen beginnt! Juhu! Jetzt ist der richtige Moment, sich auf die anstehenden Wintertouren vorzubereiten!

Although many activities at Bushcraft Yukon involve canoeing, the Yukon has so much more to offer than just amazing paddling opportunities! Claudia, Fabian and Molly just got back from a spectacular 5-day hike in Kluane National Park. Fall colors were in full swing, the weather went crazy, Molly was insanely cute, the mountains stunningly beautiful and wildlife jaw-dropping! We were laughing, in pain, disgustingly sweaty, wet, cold, freezing, hot, windburned...just like it should be on an adventurous hike!

A final canoe trip on the Pelly River officially wrapped up the paddling season for Bushcraft Yukon this summer. The Pelly offers a fantastic remote wilderness canoe experience and sees a lot less traffic than rivers like Yukon or Teslin Rivers. I especially enjoy the Pelly River in the fall with beautiful colors, crisp mornings, migrating cranes.
We offered this canoe trip in cooperation with Bushcraft Europe. Thanks to Jesper Hede for co-guiding and a good time on the land!

The BIG SALMON RIVER offers an amazing wilderness canoe trip in the southern region of the Yukon Territory. The last ten days were spent enjoying the cold and crystal clear water of this river, fishing for grayling, carefully paddling past sweepers, and portaging around impressive log jams.

We watched beavers, otters, moose, and a number of waterfowl and bald eagles in their spectacular habitat. It was especially touching to see spawning salmon in the river, since their numbers are alarmingly low.

Thanks to Ilya, Philip and Anselm for this great trip! It was fun guiding you out there!

Another wonderful Teslin River trip wrapped up! The group from Bushcraft Europe had a good time on the river enjoying the wonderful wilderness Yukon has to offer and the Teslin proved once more to be a top destination in this amazing territory! We didn't meet another (human) soul for the first five days on the trip and only a few other paddlers once we continued on the Yukon River. Due to lightning strikes during warm and dry weather a number of wildfires started in our vicinity. While still a few kilometers away from our route, the plumes of smoke were very visible at times and somewhat unnerving. But what do you do if life gives you fire? You bake a cake! Enjoy the pictures of our latest adventure!

This year we are doing one canoe trip after another...just got back from a wonderful canoe expedition on Teslin and Yukon Rivers with another group from Bushcraft Europe. What a great trip! Spectacular wildlife viewing, top-notch fishing, beautiful scenery and great company made this wilderness adventure super enjoyable!

Mein Survival-Handbuch, erschienen beim Outdoor - Conrad Stein Verlag, kam -erneut- frisch von der Druckerei. Alle Exemplare vom Erstdruck wurden verkauft und wir gehen in die zweite Runde. Die Testexemplare kamen gerade per Post ins Haus.

My survival book published with Outdoor - Conrad Stein Verlag just went to press again. All copies of the first print were sold and we are going in for round two. A small package with my samples just arrived. Yay!

In 2019 the first Global Bushcraft Symposium was held in Alberta, Canada and I had the opportunity to be a presenter at the event and meet a number of wonderful and interesting folks from all over the world.

The second Global Bushcraft Symposium will be held in the UK and is organized by Paul Kirtley and Lisa Fenton.

This will be an amazing learning opportunity for anyone and a fantastic opportunity to meet other bushcraft and survival enthusiasts and professionals.

Am I going? I would...but my Danish friends from Bushcraft butikken, who I met at the 2019 symposium, will come over for a visit and we will head out on a canoe trip...yay!
