There's one week left to register for the Canadian Museums Association / Association des musées canadiens's 2025 Museum Studies Symposium at early bird rates! And don't forget, we have an intake for the Yukon Heritage Training Fund closing in one week too, if you're looking for support to attend.

This year's symposium, taking place on February 19 & 20, 2025 at the University of Victoria, is centered on the theme Teaching, Learning, & Reciprocity and will bring together accreditation bodies, academic scholars, heritage experts, and museum practitioners for two days of collaborative exchange.

Through interactive knowledge tables, all attendees will have the opportunity to co-create knowledge, shaping the outcomes of the symposium together. The format is designed to prioritize the exchange of ideas and mutual learning, encouraging diverse voices to influence the direction of our discussions. These conversations will not only inform the symposium’s conclusions but will also help shape the future priorities and objectives of the CMA.

By the end of the event, participants will have contributed to a series of practical takeaways that will be shared in a comprehensive “What We Heard” report, capturing actionable insights and key recommendations.

CMA Members can access discounted member rates through the CMA portal. Register by January 15 to enjoy early bird prices: https://bit.ly/3AGv17t

This looks so beautiful - we can't wait to see it all lit up! We were very happy to be able to support some initial electrical work for this installation through the Yukon 125 Fund and it's amazing to see the project completed. Congratulations to artist Jackie Olson and the Yukon Arts Centre!

The official reveal of Jackie Olson's LED installation, titled Yuhke, Baby Strap 2024, will be held at the opening reception for our new art exhibits by Olson, David Curtis, the Northern Fibres Guild and Riley Cyre on Thursday, Nov. 28, 5-7 pm. Come see the incredible variety of colours the installation will show.

Welcome to YHMA

The Yukon Historical & Museums Association was established in 1977 by a group of concerned and passionate individuals to create a united voice for understanding and promoting heritage and history in the Yukon. We keep apprised of issues and advocate on behalf of the Yukon’s heritage and heritage sector.

We continue to build a learning environment for history and culture and the development of skills and best practices in the heritage sector. We share knowledge with the Yukon heritage community and support each other in protection and conservation projects. Most of our activities are collaborations and partnerships. Many of our events and programs honour those in the heritage sector that are dedicated to our vision.

The YHMA is a territorially-incorporated Society and a federally registered charitable organization.

Our membership reflects the scope and diversity of the Yukon heritage community. Our institutional members include museums, First Nation cultural centres, historical societies, art galleries, archives, historic sites, science centres, zoos and nature reserves. Our individual members include museum employees, contractors and consultants, Board members and volunteers, and others actively involved in the heritage sector or who have an interest in heritage.
