Periods are a fact of life. They are also expensive, and there’s no way around it. Did you know that women living in low-income are sometimes forced to choose between putting food on the table and affording menstrual hygiene products? The COVID-19 pandemic has had a larger impact on women living in low-income and the need for these necessary products remains high.

To help meet the need, United Way and Windsor and District Labour Council came together for a Tampon Tuesday Drive-Thru drop off collection event. Essex County Library workers answered the call for donations and I think we put together a pretty good haul!

As you have undoubtedly heard, the Ford government has made significant cuts to the Southern Ontario Library system and the Ontario Library Services North.
These cuts are horrible for library services province wide but are affecting us here in Essex County by eliminating our InterLibrary Loan service.
CUPE 2974 will be delegating to the Essex County LIbrary Board meeting, Thursday May 22, at 7pm at the Tecumseh Branch.
If you care about your library system please come out to the meeting and let them know. We hope to see you there!

Do what you can to get the public Health Nurses back to work.

Also use the same link and on the right hand side of the page , just down a little, listen the radio recordings that tell you why we are important to our community. Help us get back to work. The Health Unit will not even talk to us (we asked last week through the mediator and they said, "NO"!) they also refused an arbitrator (a objective third party who could solve this immediately).

04/20/2019

Doug Ford and his PC government have cut funding to The Southern Ontario Library Service (SOLS) and Ontario Library Service - North (OLS-North) by 50% or more. This will result in the loss of even more jobs and, more importantly, it reduces library services to those who need them the most - small rural library systems, remote Northern systems and yes, even services to us here in Windsor/Essex.
Please sign the petition and email the Minister of Tourism and Culture Michael Tibolo [email protected] and Premier Doug Ford https://correspondence.premier.gov.on.ca/…/fee…/default.aspx
to tell them you don't agree with these cuts.

98 signatures are still needed!

Don't be fooled by claims of redundancy.
Our paramedic services already serve "regions" as opposed to "cities". Amalgamating to yet bigger regions will result in service decline and could start the slippery slope of more and more privatization.
Let your MPP know that your emergency services should NOT be cut - in any way.

The Ford government plans to merge the 59 local ambulance services in Ontario into just 10, CBC News has learned.

Libraries are the only public service that is completely free, there is no requirement for use, no financial investment needed. And as such they are most important to marginalized members of society, especially lower income.
Doug Ford and his PC party are now coming after libraries...and their cuts will affect services at libraries across Ontario.
Let your MPP know you don't want these cuts.

Southern Ontario Library Service says its budget will be reduced by just over half, as well as the Ontario Library Service-North.
