PRESS RELEASE

BI clarifies Retiree’s Visa Holders allowed to enter without exemption docs

MANILA, Philippines—The Bureau of Immigration (BI) announced that aliens holding the Special Resident Retiree’s Visa (SRRV) issued by the Philippine Retirement Authority (PRA) are now allowed to enter the country.

In an advisory, BI Commissioner Jaime Morente said that following the most recent Inter-Agency Task Force for the Management of Emerging Infectious Diseases (IATF-MEID), upon recommendation of the Department of Tourism (DOT), those holding SRRVs are now allowed to enter the country without an entry exemption document.

Those holding tourist visas, said Morente, are still not permitted to enter the country, unless authorized by the country’s foreign posts abroad through an entry exemption document.

BI Port Operations Division Chief Atty. Carlos Capulong likewise added that all arriving passengers are still required to present their 10-day quarantine hotel or facility booking, except for those who have been fully vaccinated in the Philippines, who would only need to present a 7-day booking.

Capulong clarified that those coming from the seven travel-restricted countries namely India, Pakistan, Nepal, Sri Lanka, Bangladesh, Oman, and the United Arab Emirates are still not allowed to enter until June 15.

Capulong added that their personnel are on standby to service passengers that may arrive through repatriation programs of government or non-government entities for Filipinos coming from the seven countries.

Travel ban in 7 countries extended, tourists still not allowed in PH –BI

MANILA, Philippines — Bureau of Immigration (BI) Commissioner Jaime Morente announced that the agency will be implementing the extended travel ban on travelers coming from 7 countries due to emerging Covid-19 variants.

In an advisory, the BI stated that passengers coming from India, Pakistan, Nepal, Bangladesh, Sri Lanka, Oman and UAE are still not allowed to enter until June 15, following the pronouncement of the Palace.

“Those who have a travel history from said countries within the last 14 days from the date of their arrival in the Philippines, will also be prohibited from entering the country,” said Morente. “However, those who will only be transiting in the region—meaning they will not exit the airport and will not be cleared by immigration authorities there, and will only be landing for a layover, may be allowed to enter the Philippines,” he added.

BI Port Operations Division (POD) Chief Atty. Carlos Capulong reiterated that foreign nationals entering the country for tourism purposes are still not allowed.

“Only Filipinos, Balikbayans, and foreign nationals with valid and existing visas who are not coming from the 7 restricted countries may be allowed to enter the Philippines,” said Capulong. “Those who will be entering under a 9(a) Temporary Visitors’ Visa or a Special Resident Retirees Visa would need to present an entry exemption document to be allowed to enter,” he added.

Morente said that with the aggressive vaccination drive of the government, he is hopeful that travel restrictions will ease in the latter part of the year.

PRESS RELEASE

BI to implement expanded travel restrictions, bans travelers from Pakistan, Nepal, Sri Lanka, and Bangladesh

MANILA, Philippines—The Bureau of Immigration (BI) announced that they will be implementing an order from Malacanang on the imposition of restrictions for travelers coming from Pakistan, Nepal, Sri Lanka, and Bangladesh starting May 7.

In an advisory, the BI shared that all passengers from the said countries, as well as those who have a travel history within the last 14 days from the date of their arrival in the Philippines, will be prohibited from entering the country starting May 7 until May 14.

“Those who would be coming prior to May 7 will be allowed, but will be referred to the appropriate agencies to undergo a strict absolute facility-based 14-day quarantine and RT-PCR testing,” said BI Commissioner Jaime Morente.

A similar restriction has earlier been implemented by the BI for arriving passengers from India, due to the onslaught of a new Covid-19 variant in the said region.

However, passengers who will be merely transiting through India, Pakistan, Nepal, Sri Lanka, and Bangladesh, will be allowed to enter, but will be required to undergo a strict 14-day quarantine.

BI Port Operations Division (POD) Chief Atty. Carlos Capulong stated that passengers considered transiting are those who merely stayed in the airport of the said countries the whole time and were not cleared for entry into those countries by their immigration authorities.

Meanwhile, Capulong clarified that the spouse and children of Filipinos or former Filipinos who are traveling to the Philippines without the Filipino or former Filipino spouse or parent may only be allowed upon the presentation of a valid 9(a) visa and an exemption document from the Department of Foreign Affairs (DFA).

“Only those who are traveling with the former Filipino spouse or parent are eligible for the balikbayan privilege,” said Capulong.

The Balikbayan privilege allows the spouse and children of Filipinos and former Filipinos who are traveling with them visa-free entry, with a one-year stay.

“This is in compliance to the resolution of the Inter-Agency Task Force for Emerging Infectious Diseases, temporarily banning the entry of aliens holding temporary visitors’ visas,” said Capulong.

Applicants are requested to include in their email the copies of their expiring passport (personal info page) and permit. Instructions will be emailed to them accordingly.
