“Nature films often give the impression that the country is running alive with animals. Well, I’ll tell ya right now that’s a lie. I will canoe a whole summer and see one, two moose, maybe a bear if I am lucky. It’s a really big deal to see an animal.”
-Bill Mason
It’s true they are there, but we only see them when they give us these rare moments, and it really is special. This visit before a storm about a week ago was quite a surprise.
Since being here on the river we have encountered bear, deer, eagles, a bobcat, snapping turtles, partridge, beaver, ermine and many squirrels and small birds. It takes patience and you can’t have any expectations, just gratitude when you get to see these wild creatures!
All season boating with the kids.

So many of you that follow me share my passion for the outdoors and specifically paddling. So please listen up I have an amazing friend in need and I am asking for your help.
This woman Sandra Phinney has been an inspiration and my idol within the outdoor community but also as the amazing beautiful person she is!
She is in need of a new shoulder, the pain she is living with is not only keeping her from her passion for paddling but everyday life! I can imagine how painful the physical discomfort is, but not being able to go canoeing on the river or bear hugs with family or the slow loss of independence must feel for Sandra who has given so much to her community is and an absolute gem of a human.
If you have the means please donate, there is a go fund me

to help her get the shoulder she needs. If you can’t donate will you please at least share so more people have the chance to make a major life impacting change happen for someone who genuinely deserves and needs it. ❤️
🏕️ what’s your favourite kinda camping?
My favourite time of year - 🍂 Autumn
My Favourite place - on the river 💧
Oh hi Autumn 🍂
Peggy’s Cove
It has been wayyyyy to long since and I have treated ourselves to a relaxing weekend away together.
Like no joke years… maybe 7 or 8 years 😬 yikes!
After the last two years of stress and excitement building our home and reinventing our life together, I don’t think we even realized how badly we needed it!

So clean, cozy and comfortable.
The wood fired hot tub was luxurious and the snug cheerful cabin was totally our vibe.
It’s super ironic (and completely unplanned) that we enjoyed this getaway on the 5th anniversary of the weekend we celebrated ten years of marriage.
Was that last bit a little confusing 😆
John and I never had a wedding, just a small simple ceremony in January 2008, after 10 years we celebrated with family and friends at Birchdale August 2018.
Wouldn’t mind making this an annual tradition.
We also truly loved playing tourist.
Taking the lighthouse route on the drive up, we went on the cable ferry in Lahave and stopped at beaches and antique shops.
Lawrencetown beach was so fun, watching the surfers and enjoying trails.
We even made our way out to Peggy’s Cove, and visited all the shops and galleries.
10/10 highly recommend exploring your own backyard AND planning a stay at .cottages

Thanks for asking! Forest play is a really fun experience I started offering a few years ago. I guide forest bathing (Shinrin Yoku) events and it is so wonderful, my own kids started asking to participate. So I got the idea to merge the forest bathing with child focused play. Generally we will do some guided nature appreciation and discovering, paying close attention to the small details and our senses. We also incorporate some more structured playful learning/ creative time. Sometimes we build using natural materials, sometimes we do experiments like what makes a good campfire tinder etc. We will have a forest lunch provided. And I always leave some room for open free play once the kids have broken the ice and are a little more comfortable. It’s fun to see their minds and imagination take control of the activity. If you have any more questions feel free to toss them my way!
Have you been camping this summer? 🏕 This montage is from a fun trip I did this summer. I feel like the summer has whisked by. I didn’t get out as much as I wanted to. My mood is lingering in a summertime haze. Even now as we head towards labour day weekend and back to school 😮 Oh well I may soon make up for it in a new exciting adventure, a little different then I am used to…. 😜 Stay tuned and follow along so fun exciting things are bound to follow!! #adventuretime #camping #camplife #simplelife #novascotia #camperlifestyle #summertimeshine
I have shared a couple videos on YouTube of my recent Tobeatic trip (check the link in my bio) When we got back people kept asking “did you have fun?” Or “did you have a good trip?” Good and fun were not words I would use to describe that week. I stumbled every time, I feel like it’s hard to know what it’s like until you have been out in this #wildernessarea. It’s hard to know how difficult until you have pressed through these #wildportages. And it’s also hard to describe. I have tried to share some of the feeling and experiences by creating these videos, though they are far from a complete representation of what #traversingtheTobeatic is. It is #hard It is #wild It is #beautiful It is #memorable It is #vast It is #magnificent It is #untamed It is #demanding I have gone back and watched these videos numerous times. It always fills me with emotions and memories. I wish I had started doing videos long ago so I would have this same sweet keepsakes of paddling the @stmarysriver or my trip from #Birchdale to the #ocean. But I am happy to look back at the ones I do have. I hope some of you get some enjoyment out of them also, maybe you will even be inspired to get out and discover the #backcountry yourself.
I have started uploading Part Two cause it will literally take all night and part of tomorrow to upload #rurallifeproblems Cofan cabin was a refuge in the Tobeatic…a special place. You can feel the connection with the past in this area and it is a fun place to #rest and #discover. We gave the #canoe a break and spent an entire day at the cabin soaking it in. After leaving #Cofancabin we headed into some of the most remote parts of #NovaScotia, where travel is tough but also very rewarding. We had some hurdles on this leg of the trip but we also had some very #specialmoments in this beautiful #wildplace. North Bingay lake was a sanctuary, a place I long for daily now.
