Pre-bending 1/4” wall/ceiling panels. Wetting the back side, then ‘steaming’ under polyethylene for an hour per sheet. Over bent at a slightly tighter radius than the actual Airstream radius. So far results are impressive!

Todays mission: final layout and construction of THIS cabinet to contain (among other things) the original 8-track/radio..
Oh, and I’m modifying it with a Bluetooth receiver/transmitter option. So I’m not sure it’s the FIRST Bluetooth 8-track, but pretty confident they aren’t ‘common’! LOL!

Being your own boss is often a thankless job, and it’s easy to get bogged down in the ‘weeds’ of what’s wrong about it, but then, you get a great job that lets you flex those ‘outside the box’ muscles, AMAZING clients, a 40 FOOT commute to work, and the freedom to get in an early morning shoulder workout!

One only need look at this Google Earth image to appreciate Above Parr’s location. Parr Lake stretches almost a full kilometre to the East, over three kilometres to the South, becoming Ogden Lake, following the same course along the river that the original settlers used to get here as well as used to get the logs they’d cut to market. The many inlets and coves can provide days of exploration and camping opportunities.
Another option involves taking canoes or kayaks a few short kilometres upriver, along Highway 340, paddlers can enjoy an almost full day excursion, traversing many kinds of water, depending on rainfall and time of year. Contact Above Parr today for help coordinating your excursion.

The story of Above Parr is tied inextricably to this land upon which the Farmhouse sits. In essence, it’s the just the most recent chapter of the Brittain Family being on this land since 1848, the Brittain family being two of the three founding families of Forest Glen (The First 100 Years of Pokeymoonshine, page 9, printed 2008)
Horatio Nelson Brittain, Thomas Joseph Brittain and Lyman Allen.
This chapter is ESPECIALLY profound for me, because of the renewed awareness of ..legacy and..history that I feel imbued with. The house I currently live in has had many generations of Brittains call it home. The downstairs bedroom was the first ‘store’ in Forest Glen, as hard to believe as that is.
How the Brittains arrived in Forest Glen is unclear. Our history is similar to many of European decent. Celts originally, but from Western France, Brittany, also known as Armorica in more ancient times, it is a land steeped in mystery and ancient ruins. The stone ruins of Carnac are found in Brittany. The name first appears in England around 1066, with the invasion of William the Conqueror, with various spellings. The Brittains were the ‘landed gentry’ at the time. (I knew I was gentry, deep down inside..albeit VERY deep!)

Years later, the Brittains migrated to America, but at the start of the American Revolution, the family split, as did many of the day. An excerpt from a Family History put together by one of my relatives reads “James Brittain of New Jersey, he wished to take no part in the Revolutionary Controversy, but having become obnoxious his house was surrounded by a party of about 30 men, who robbed and plundered him at pleasure..” Ah, James, God love you for establishing precedent for me..it’s NOT my fault, it’s obviously genetic..

Long story..less long, the Loyalist Brittains were granted land in St. John, NB after decent work ‘in service of the King’, in 1783. There’s a decided gap in the story, which, after recording some births and deaths, jumps to 1848, and the Brittains arrival in Forest Glen. I’ll go out on a limb and guess some case of ‘obnoxiousness’ lay at the root of the story..

While my grandfather was away fighting the Germans in the First World War, my Grandmother cut trees, used oxen to haul stumps and cleared a sizeable apple orchard. With great effort, I will resist the temptation to tell an anecdote that sharply contrasts past Brittain’s spouses to more recent versions..Let’s just say they do not make them like that anymore..
Oscar Wilde said ‘Tact is the ability to tell someone to go to hell in such a way that they look forward to the trip..”, this was my attempt at tact..

The moral of this..story(?) is that I am here to keep the legacy alive, to preserve the lands that have been sweated over and bled for, to walk the ground in the steps of better men and women than myself, and be humbly grateful for the opportunity to do so, in awe of their hard work and sacrifice.
May I eventually be worthy of you all..
