The pink temple stones carving

35 km north of Siem Reap lies Banteay Srey, meaning the citadel of women or fortune. Situated 20 km northeast of Bayon, this temple is on the site of the ancient city of Isvarapura, near the mountain of Phnom Dei.
The temple was restored between 2010 and 2016 by a team from the University of Geneva and the Ecole Polytechnique Fédérale de Lausanne, Switzerland. Funded by the Swiss Agency for Development and Cooperation (SDC) and the Cambodian government, the project's main aim was to repair the damage left by run-off, looting and vandalism.
Along with the archaeological site of Angkor and, more recently, Preah Vihear, Banteay Srey is a UNESCO World Heritage Site.

doctor who saved 100,000 children in Cambodia

Beat Richner (13 March 1947 - 9 September 2018) was a Swiss pediatrician, cellist and founder of children's hospitals in Cambodia. He created the Kantha Bopha Foundation in Zurich in 1992 and became its head.
Along with another expatriate, he oversaw and ran the predominantly Cambodian-manned hospitals. As both a cellist and a medical doctor, Richner was known by patients, audiences, and donors as « Beatocello ».He rightly accused the WHO of « passive genocide » against children in Cambodia. Indeed, the medicines prescribed in the country by this entity were harmful, sometimes very dangerous, particularly against tuberculosis. The doctor advocated quality medicine and appropriate care, even in a poor country.
Today, the Swiss Agency for Development and Cooperation (SDC) and the Cambodian government continue to support his good deeds, thanks to the funds raised to build 3 hospitals with a total of 2300 beds, 2 in Phnom Penh and 1 in Siem Reap.
Having died in Switzerland, the ashes of this incredible cello player, with whom he performed in fund-raising concerts in Switzerland and Siem Reap, were brought back to Cambodia, where they rest in a small Khmer Stupa, in front of Jayavarman VII Children's Hospital in Siem Reap.
A Swiss-run hotel bearing the Beatocello name will soon open in Siem Reap, with part of the profits going to the Beat Richner Foundation in Switzerland, to continue helping to care for Cambodian children. You too can contribute by making a small donation here:

Beat Richner (13 mars 1947 - 9 septembre 2018) était un pédiatre suisse, violoncelliste et fondateur d'hôpitaux pour enfants au Cambodge. Il crée la Fondation Kantha Bopha à Zurich en 1992 et en devient le directeur.
Avec un autre expatrié, il a supervisé et dirigé les hôpitaux principalement gérés par des Cambodgiens. A la fois violoncelliste et médecin, Richner était connu des patients, du public et des donateurs sous le nom de "Beatocello". Il a accusé à juste titre l'OMS de "génocide passif" à l'encontre des enfants du Cambodge. En effet, les médicaments prescrits dans le pays par cette entité étaient nocifs, parfois très dangereux, notamment contre la tuberculose. Le médecin prônait une médecine de qualité et des soins appropriés, même dans un pays pauvre.
Aujourd'hui, la Direction du développement et de la coopération 🇨🇭(DDC) et le gouvernement cambodgien continuent de soutenir ses bonnes actions, grâce aux fonds récoltés pour construire 3 hôpitaux d'un total de 2300 lits, 2 à Phnom Penh et 1 à Siem Reap.
Décédé en Suisse, les cendres de cet incroyable violoncelliste, avec lequel il a donné des concerts de collecte de fonds en Suisse et à Siem Reap, ont été ramenées au Cambodge, où elles reposent dans un petit Stupa khmer, devant l'hôpital pour enfants Jayavarman VII à Siem Reap.
Un hôtel managé par des Suisses portant le nom de Beatocello ouvrira bientôt ses portes à Siem Reap. Une partie des bénéfices sera reversée à la Fondation Beat Richner en Suisse, afin de continuer à contribuer à l'amélioration des conditions de vie des enfants cambodgiens.
