The wrought-iron gate at Ciani Park. 🇨🇭
The wrought-iron gate on the lakeshore in front of Villa Ciani, framing the gulf and the profile of Monte San Salvatore, is certainly one of the favourite perspectives of tourists visiting Lugano.
The work was saved during the demolition of Casa Rusca in Mendrisio and purchased by the painter Emilio Ferrazzini in 1959, thus avoiding its sale beyond the Gotthard. Built in the 18th century and considered a cantonal historical monument, the gate was sold to the City of Lugano, which acquired it with the financial contribution of Pro Lugano.
In 1960, the building, which was initially intended to be located in Ciani Park towards the mouth of the Cassarate River, was placed opposite the Villa, in front of the old dock, which today seems to be its ideal location.
