Fair play to Anna Kirkman for getting the company jacket on local television this week 😅 as she was being interviewed about volunteer recruitment for the finals of the annual UTMB Mont-Blanc world trail running series in Chamonix, France.

And in case you hadn't figured it out yet, both Anna and Percy Kirkman will be on the start line of the gruelling 171km UTMB trail race at the end of August this year, for which the maximum allowed running time is 46.5 hours! 😮🏃‍♀️🏃

Access to La Tzoumaz after the 2024 Tunnel Collapse: What is it actually like to drive the road deviation?

In response to numerous international client requests for more details, we filmed the entire road deviation, starting from the old motorway junction. Below is the entire 36 minute journey, for anyone who is feeling nervous about their upcoming journey!

Background:
Following the Riddes-La Tzoumaz tunnel collapse that closed the normal access road to our beloved resort, all traffic now has to pass through the very narrow and precipitous roads of Aproz, Condemines and Iserables. This adds around 20 additional minutes to the journey in good conditions.

It's a great opportunity to experience these mountain villages, which grew up before there was road acces, and where the majority of our contractors (plumbers, electricians etc) live in houses built so close to each other that you literally can't drive a bus between them...

Access is forbidden to trucks and coaches, so all supplies (and tourist groups) are now being delivered in vehicles < 3.5 tonnes. Life carries on in the resort as usual, and the supermarkets, bars and restaurants remain well-stocked.

A one-way system is in place from 8h00 until 20h00 to reduce the likelihood of meeting traffic coming the other way, but beware as locals are issued with a pass that allows them to travel in both directions at any time.

The public transport system is fully operational and is the fastest way to reach the resort, by public telecabin from Riddes to Iserables and then Postbus to La Tzoumaz. Details here: https://www.sbb.ch/en

! Warning ! The tunnel from Riddes up to La Tzoumaz collapsed this evening and so the main road is closed to all traffic in both directions until further notice.

It is still possible to reach the resort (in normal-sized cars) by staying on the motorway until Conthey, then following the "Route de la Printse" road to Fey / Condamines and then Iserables, before passing through Auddes and finally arriving in La Tzoumaz. Please note this is a narrow, mountain road with passing places, no signposts and few streetlights, so the deviation will add an extra 45-60 minutes to your journey and please drive carefully.

We have 5 sets of clients still travelling to check in today and we wish them all the best on this unfortunate extension to what was probably already a very long day on the road!

How fantastic to see Thibaut Pinot 🇫🇷 closely followed by Geraint Thomas 🇬🇧 (in the Maillot Rose of the Giro d'Italia) coming up over the Col de la Croix-de-Coeur today, not-so-closely followed by Mark Cavendish 🇬🇧 and Fabian Lienhard 🇨🇭, as they topped out and headed down past the 4v4s office on the way to Crans Montana 🚲 🤩

An incredible weekend at the Kandahar FIS World Cup Slalom event in Les Houches, in the back garden of Chalet Jorland, and only a stone's throw from Apartment Halny. Big shout out to Anna Kirkman and Lisa King for working hard all day to ensure the supporters all had enough champagne and beer to drink!
