Saas-Fee is located at 1850m height and is surrounded by the highest mountains in Switzerland. Cars are prohibited, which contributes to the authenticity of the village. Skiing possibilities are fantastic and the slopes rise up until 3700 on the famous Fee glacier. In summer, spring and fall the area also provides for a wide variety of outdoor activities in the fresh air of the Alpes.
In the village high buildings are prohibited, so the characteristics of the original village are well maintained. Local farmers still use the small fields that are scattered across the village to herd their cattle and they still use the old wooden sheds, called “Speycher”.
Because of the location of Saas-Fee at 1850 meters height and in the middle of several 4000 meters high mountains (amongst which the highest peak of the Swiss Alpes, the Dom), the village is called “the pearl of the Alpes”. Saas-Fee is not flooded by mass tourism, so also many Swiss people have been enjoying the village themselves for decades.
Saas-Fee during summer
In Summer time, the village of Saas-Fee is very attractive because of the possibilities for a wide variety of outdoor activities. The area offers many trails for hiking and mountain biking. Through the Saas-Fee app, trails can easily be selected and followed. Besides this, it is possible to go skiing on the glacier or do all kinds of other sports like tennis, mini golf, climbing and sledding.
Also for guests that are less of a sports lover, Saas-Fee is attractive because of the many restaurants, terraces and the magnificent views that you can enjoy by taking the free cable cart up the mountain.
In wintertime
In Saas-Fee good quality snow is guaranteed. Skiing conditions for both skiing and snowboarding are extraordinary. One of the fantastic slopes down the glacier is called “Glacier Promenade”, which says it all.
There are plenty of nice restaurants alongside the slopes where you can have a tasty lunch, accompanied by a good glass of local Walliser wine.
