We were thrilled to host Megan Angell, an Environmental Geoscience student from Cardiff University, to provide her with hands-on experience in addition to her classroom learning.

Megan worked with various teams, including our Geotechnical Engineering and Advanced Testing teams. She assisted in data analysis, parameter derivation, and interpretation and learned the necessary skills and procedures to ensure the safe and accurate delivery of consistent data. Megan also visited the Geoquip Seehorn, where she observed the beginning of the sampling and data journey, gaining valuable insight into frontline operations. It was a pleasure to have Megan with us.
She was a valuable team member and displayed an excellent attitude towards all aspects of our work. We greatly appreciate her contributions.

In celebration of National Apprentice Week, we're shining the spotlight on our newest apprentice, Thomas Willmott, who holds the role of Apprentice Laboratory Technician.

Thomas's journey with Geoquip Marine began as he sought to impact the environment positively. Drawn to the renewable energy industry, working for our company seemed like a no-brainer!

Facing challenges within traditional classroom settings, Thomas pursued an apprenticeship to gain hands-on experience and learn in an environment that suits his preferences. Now, he's immersed in the world of soil and rock samples during various supervised tests; this allows him to apply his theoretical knowledge and deepen his understanding of processes and procedures.

Uzair Mazhar, Assistant Laboratory Manager, enjoys mentoring Thomas; he keeps him challenged by supporting him in becoming more efficient and improving the reliability of his results.

Thomas aspires to become a skilled professional, a geotechnical data expert who adds value and delivers guidance. We are proud of his progress and look forward to supporting him through his stages of development.

We’re starting the week by reflecting on the Geotechnical Engineering Careers Fair we attended at Imperial College.

It was an excellent opportunity to meet the students and interact with them. We were impressed with their experience and eagerness to grow in their careers.

We are proud supporters of the MSc Industrial Bursary Scheme at Imperial College. This scheme is part-funded by us, along with 14 other industry leaders. It provides financial support to Geotechnical Engineering MSc students.

It’s been a month since we presented at the SUT’s Offshore Site Investigation and Geotechnics (OSIG) 9th international conference. We were delighted to present papers on:
👉 A Critical Appraisal of Methods for and Obstacles to Obtaining, Processing, and Interpreting Useful Data From Offshore Seismic Cone Pe*******on Testing
👉 Comparative Assessment of Differing In-Situ Degradation Behaviour in Offshore Silt and Sand Soils Using Cyclic and Dual Sleeve Piezocone Pe*******on Tests

OSIG is the longest standing international conference series of this type. It brings together the offshore Geotechnical, Geophysical, & Geoscientific industry & academic communities to share the latest research, knowledge and experience. It was fantastic to be surrounded by hundreds of other professionals dedicated to Innovative Geotechnologies for Energy Transition.

🌊 We eventually found a gap in the weather to carry out our annual beach clean. 🌊

Some of our Geoquippers headed to Sand Bay to clean up the beach! After several windy hours and one well deserved ice cream break, we collected and disposed of a significant amount of litter. As an organisation, we are proud to support the Great British Beach Clean and do what we can to impact the ocean positively. We will share more on our current environmental contribution and aspirations in our latest ESG report, which will be published next week!

Geoquip Marine will continue to work with Equinor and Polenergia to provide crucial geotechnical data for Bałtyk I offshore wind farm in the Baltic Sea.

Our team previously played a crucial role in the construction of the Bałtyk II and Bałtyk III offshore wind farms, providing essential geotechnical data for design and installation. The collective group of three offshore wind farms is a significant development toward harnessing the renewable wind energy available in the Baltic Sea region.

Under this new contract, Geoquip Marine's primary goal is to conduct a thorough Reconnaissance Geotechnical Investigation for Bałtyk I, which will be essential for understanding geological variations of the seafloor and refining foundation and cable designs. Our investigation will also identify high-strength soil units and offer key insights for export cable design considerations.

We are thrilled to announce that we are working on one of the world's first large-scale floating wind farms, MarramWind. MarramWind is a joint venture between ScottishPower and Shell.
MarramWind could provide up to 3 GW of cleaner renewable energy – enough to power the equivalent of more than 3.5 million homes!

We will conduct a complete geotechnical investigation to gather essential data for engineering and feasibility studies. Our work will also help our clients' teams by enabling the assessment of other crucial components like floater anchors, fixed foundations, and cable systems while helping ensure the project meets environmental requirements.

The Geoquip team started mobilisation for the project aboard the Seehorn in August 2023, while down-hole work utilising one of our Integrated Geotechnical Survey vessels (IGSV) will take place in 2024.
