Sand particles from the Sahara appeared in Swiss skies on Saturday afternoon, bathing parts of the country in a soft milky-yellow light. The particles originated in regions of northwest Africa, including Mauritania, Mali, and Algeria. Weather and wind conditions in those countries forced the sand two to five kilometers up into the sky before it was blown towards Europe via southerly winds.

Swiss Scientists from Zurich’s Federal Institute of Technology (ETHZ) have discovered how to make chocolate bars shimmer like rainbows when reflected in light, by imprinting a special structure on the surface of the confectionery. The shimmering effect has been perfected without the use of artificial additives. Having hit upon the perfect solution, the scientists are in discussions with major chocolate producers to scale up their invention on an industrial scale and plan to establish a spin-off company soon. 🤓
