So it goes like this.

Steve says, “please make sure you hire a bigger car this time, the small is too small.”

So I order a medium car. From memory, we could fit our bags and ourselves into a medium car in the past.

On arrival, we see the medium car and we all go “ Hmmmm 😳.”

We have 4 large bags (and the kitchen sink), the child in tow has grown, and well, let’s just say it was a tight squeeze 😆.

The grief I was given, I tell you. It was a hilarious drive home to Surf Mist.

So if you’re hiring a car, just remember, the small cars are SMALL!!!

We launched back into the short-term stay in June this year. Getting Surf Mist ready to host guests has been a great experience. Thanks to Vai and her excellent management skills, guests have been enjoying their stay and have left us some great reviews on Airbnb. See that beach behind me?

Vaima Restaurant.

It’s a short stroll along the beach from Surf Mist. They have the best curries. Pizza too.

You can sit on the beach and enjoy the sunset. One of our favourite things to do in our little village of Vaimaanga.

Oh and their desserts … 🍨👌😋

When building Surf Mist in 2016, we asked our kids, do you want a pool, or would you prefer to go to Disneyland? We had already planned a trip to visit Disneyland in the U.S. and they had been looking forward to it.

Guess what they chose?

It was a good decision on their part. They gave up their trip to Disney and we added a pool and it was the best thing we did!

Though we are only a short walk to the beach and swimming in the lagoon is always relaxing, having a pool adds a level of luxury and the kids spend hours in that pool.

Just spent the last few weeks renovating Surf Mist so it’s up to scratch. Nothing like walking into a clean and spacious home, and sitting outside enjoying the fresh air and chatting to friends and family.

We swam in the lagoon everyday. Walked along the beach and sat to watch a few sunsets.

We ate at our favourite place The Vaima. A new cafe has just opened within walking distance. Wigmore’s has fast food takeaway joint and local cooked food on sale daily. Great selection of local fruit and veggies too.

Our little village of Vaimaanga is starting to take shape.

This was our visit to Rarotonga last April 2023, we got to hang out at our favorite places, Muri Beach being one of them.

We would swim or (walk across the lagoon at low tide) to the island across from the Sailing Club, and take a leisurely walk around the island, watch the lagoon cruise shows, and lay on the beach drinking in the beauty of the lagoon.

When our kids were little, we used to pretend we had found an island and would explore every bit of it, our daughter pretending to be Dora The Explorer! That was a few haircuts ago. She's now studying at university.

Last year we spent ten days on the island and stayed in our home, Surf Mist. We have such beautiful memories there. There is a connection to the earth there that we can never find any place else.

This April 2024, we are heading back home to set up Surf Mist to put back into short-term rentals. It has been rented long-term for 3 years as a result of the border closures during the pandemic.

Now we have our home back and it's been revamped and ready for our family and visitors to enjoy their holidays in the Cook Islands. It's our home away from home!
