Valle de la Luna - San Pedro de Atacama

Patagonia Río Aysén

The Miscanti and Miñique lagoons are located more than 4,000 meters above sea level and 90 km from San Pedro de Atacama. Both are fed by water sources that come from the surface of the earth, attract a large group of animals, such as the abundance of flamingos, a severe contrast surrounded by snowy slopes and brilliantly reflected in its waters.

These altiplanic lagoons are one of the 7 sectors that constitute the Los Flamencos National Reserve. Beeing here you can see volcanoes and mountainous relief, with the Miscanti and Miñiques hills standing out.

The lagoons are inhabited by species such as horned tagua, Chilean flamingo, small parina, caitó, baird's sandpiper, puna plover, juarjual duck and guallata. The flora is mainly composed of llareta and paja brava. There are archeological sites in the surrounding areas.

Where is Easter Island?
Since its initial colonization by Polynesian immigrants, its extreme isolation favored the development of a culture with unique features in the world, which has only been reconstructed thanks to the contribution of archaeology and ethnology.

But where is Easter Island?

Easter Island or also called Rapa Nui is an island and territory of Chile in the southeastern Pacific Ocean. There is no other inhabited place in the world that is as isolated in the sea as Easter Island: It is 3,686 kilometers away from the Chilean mainland.

The island is most renowned for its nearly 1,000 extant monumental statues, called moai, which were created by the early Rapa Nui people. In 1995, UNESCO named Easter Island a World Heritage Site, with much of the island protected within Rapa Nui National Park.

Good news for tourists who want to travel to Chile: Border crossings to be reopened as of May 1 2022

The Chilean Government announced that as from Sunday, May 1, 2022, all the country’s land border crossings, located on the international borders with Argentina, Bolivia and Peru, will be reopened. Most of these complexes have been closed since mid-March 2020 as a precautionary measure due to the pandemic.

Safety measures have also been announced to control the flow of people and private vehicles, as well as to prevent outbreaks of the disease. The latter includes a mandatory declaration of travelers and a vaccination requirement upon entering the country, with the voluntary homologation of the vaccine to access the mobility pass. Once in Chilean territory, it is also required for inter-regional travel on public transport and entry to closed places.

In addition to the above, there will be people who will be randomly selected to undergo a PCR or antigen test. In the event that the national and global sanitary situation worsens, the Health Authority has foreseen a progressive increase of control measures at the entry points to the country.
