An striking penguin of the genus Pygoscelis, a krill-specialist and a northern sub-Antarctic breeder, Gentoo Penguin is such an elegant and acrobatic creature, when leaping out of the surface in the urgent need to arrive to its breeding colonies.
These shots were taken in the fantastic Sea Lion Island, during one of our regular trips to the Falkland Islands, in the South Atlantic.

One of my favorite penguin species, the Rockhopper. I truly admire their ability to master the hostile world they live in. Their comings and goings, from the stormy seas where they feed to the steep, remote islands where they breed. That sharp boundary between these two worlds, have always fascinated me and I have been lucky enough to document that action in two remote islands: Sea Lion in the Falklands, and Noir in southern Chile.

Andean Condor – The most emblematic bird of the Andes 🦅

One of our naturalist guides, , who leads trips throughout Chile, tells us about his latest tour, “Condors of Farellones”. This majestic bird doesn’t take flight until the air currents are perfect. Once the air conditions are ideal, the Andean condor descends to Farellones. In this scene, Jorge tells me that it’s likely to observe juvenile, immature, and adult individuals—a true natural spectacle and an opportunity to see the Andean condor in different phases of its life.

The Andean condor is a true master of flight, with an astonishing ability to harness air currents without moving a single feather. Thanks to its ability to detect wind currents, it can stay in the air for up to 5 hours and travel up to 170 kilometers, gliding between rising air currents. These natural forces provide the energy it needs to fly effortlessly, allowing it to cover vast territories in search of food.

Un fuerte chasquido en la floresta, pequeños trozos de corteza se desprenden desde la Lenga, y de improviso emerge un pequeño y colorido habitante del bosque magallánico, mientras caza diminutos insectos, casi imperceptibles al ojo humano. Antes Uds., el Comesebo Grande (o Picolezna Carmelita).

A loud snap in the forest, small pieces of bark detach from the Lenga tree, and while suddenly, a small and colorful inhabitant of the Magellanic Patagonian forests briefly emerges, while it hunts for tiny insects, almost imperceptible to the human eye. Behold the White-throated Treerunner.

Tour isla Magdalena 22 de octubre! 🐧

La isla Magdalena fue declarada Parque Nacional en 1966 y reclasificada Monumento Natural el año 1982. Esta área silvestre donde encuentra una de las mayores colonias de pingüinos de Chile, tiene como objetivo proteger la avifauna del lugar, compuesta principalmente por pingüinos Magallanicos, cormoranes y gaviotas.

Está a dos horas de navegación desde Punta Arenas. Un espectáculo imperdible e impactante creado por la naturaleza y cuidadosamente preservado.

La capacitación de guías y preparación de la nueva temporada 24/25 está llegando al final. 🥹

Nuestra última parada fue en la Laguna Sofía y sus hermosos cóndores. También tuvimos la oportunidad de recorrer el circuito de pinturas rupestres en el camino hacia Torres del Paine. 🦅

Fueron días intensos, maravillosos, con mucho trabajo y también entretención junto a nuestro equipo. 👌
