I feel incredibly fortunate to work in the travel industry, not just for the opportunity to showcase the unique treasures of a country, but for the chance to share these experiences with my son.

Les mains d’Ana, vingt-cinq fois grand-mère, en disent long sur un savoir faire que lui ont légué sa mère et sa grand-mère et qu’elle transmet maintenant à ses filles et petites-filles.

Quelle merveille de voir cette grand-mère travailler la fibre du palmier de chambira. Pour récolter la matière première, elle se lève à l’aube pour se rendre au cœur de la forêt afin de récolter les feuilles du palmier de chambira. Des feuilles sont extraites les fibres qui seront séchées puis teintées à base de fruit, d’écorces ou de végétaux. Les fibres sont ensuite filées sur différentes longueurs et grosseurs en fonction du travail à réaliser. Ana répète les gestes appris de sa grand-mère et de sa mère qu’elles enseignent à ses filles et petites filles. Un travail minutieux et un savoir faire ancestral qui se transmet de génération en génération.
