Acorn Woodpeckers are like nature's comedians. Seriously, their antics crack me up.

Picture this: a little bird with a clown face.
Red cap, white eyes, and a goofy grin.

They store acorns in trees like mini squirrels.

This small and charming bird that inhabits dry habitats in interior valleys and on the Pacific slope. The crested bobwhite is easily recognized by its long feathers on the forehead and crown, which can be white or dark, and its marbled black and white neck. The upper parts are mottled black, brown and gray, and the underparts are pale with dark markings. The crested bobwhite feeds on seeds, shoots, leaves and insects, and often forms small groups on the ground. The male has a loud whistled bob-WHITE! call that can be heard from far away. The crested bobwhite is not threatened by extinction, but it is always a thrill to see one in its natural environment with great photographic oportunities. The male has a high-pitched, squeaky song that can be heard from far away. The stripe-throated hermit is fairly common and not threatened by extinction, but it is always a delight to spot one in its natural habitat. Queremos agradecerles a todos los Vakers que nos Ayudaron a hacer el sueño de estos jovenes pajareros realidad.Con el aporte que hicieron logramos conseguir los equipos para que este semillero de observadores de aves puedanseguir con su proceso de formación. A pesar de que nuestra meta era de COP$ 9.000.000, y solo logramos reunir COP$ 2.819.171 (el 31%) logramos hacer buen uso de sus aportes y logramos conseguir 10 binoculares y 1 telescopio con su trípode, de marca genérica, pero aptos para la observación de aves. Por supuesto queríamos entregarles a los muchachos equipos de más calidad y durabilidad, sin embargo logramos conseguir equipos con una calidad bastante decente para empezar el proceso. Yo mismo, JulioDelgado, supervisé la calidad de los equipos y son lo suficientemente buenos para que el semillero pueda empezara formar a estos muchachos y muchachas.

We want to thank all the Crowd funders who helped us make the dream of these young birders come true. With your contribution, we managed to get the equipment so that this birdwatchers nursery may continue their training process. Despite the fact that our goal was COP$9,000,000 / USD$ 2.715, and we only raised COP$ 2,819,171 / USD$ 682 (31%), we managed to make good use of your contributions and to get 10 binoculars and 1 spotting scope with its tripod, of generic brands, but suitable for bird watching.Of course we wanted to provide the boys & girls with more quality and durable equipment, however, we managed to get fairly decent quality equipment to start the process. I supervised the quality of the equipment and they are good enough for El Garcero reserve to continue training these boys and girls. They have already started using the new equipment, they have already made a couple of birding parties, and they are very grateful with your donations. On behalf of the El Garcero Reserve, Neotrópicos Foundation and myself, I want to thank you for your time, energy and your contribution to this beautiful campaign.

If you're looking to observe the Tourmaline Sunangel (Heliangelus exortis), head to Colombia where these hummingbirds are found. They prefer dense, mossy cloud or elfin forests but can also be seen in other habitats such as forest clearings and edges. To identify them, look for the male's bright purple throat patch and blue-green forecrown or the female's white throat.
It is aggressively territorial at feeding locations. It takes nectar from a variety of flowering plants, usually clings to flowers to feed rather than hovering at them. It captures insects by hawking from a perch and by gleaning from vegetation.

El Descanso, close to Cali, is The Best place to observe and photograph the near endemic Toucan Barbet (Semnornis ramphastinus). This stocky bird has a cooperative breeding system, which makes it an interesting species to observe. It is social, living in small family groups which work together to defend their territories and raise the chicks communally. Chicks are raised in cavities dug into large, usually dead trees.
It feeds on fruit and a range of animal prey, with insects being an important part of the diet of chicks. It sometimes joins mixed-species feeding flocks.
The toucan barbet can be found in humid forests growing on the west Andean slopes in Colombia. The Jabiru (Jabiru mycteria) The jabiru lives near rivers and ponds, and eats prodigious quantities of frogs, fish, snakes, snails, insects, and other invertebrates. It will even eat fresh carrion and dead fish, such as those that die during dry spells, and thus help maintain the quality of isolated bodies of water. They feed in flocks and usually forage by wading in shallow water. Jabirus detect prey more through tactile sensation than vision. They feed by holding their open bill at a 45 degree angle to the water. When prey is contacted, the storks close their bill, draw it out of the water, and throw their head back to swallow. The Santa Marta blossomcrown (Anthocephala floriceps)is a Vulnerable species of hummingbird, endemic to the Sierra Nevada de Santa Marta of Colombia . It's breeding season apparently includes September and October. Males gather in leks to court females.

Did you know that the Hooded Siskin (Carduelis magellanica) is known for its bright yellow feathers and black hood, making it one of the most striking birds in Colombia. It is a social bird and can be found in flocks of up to 20 individuals. These birds are seed-eaters and can often be seen perched on thistle plants, their favorite food source. The Hooded Siskin is an important indicator species for the health of high-altitude ecosystems in Colombia. If you're lucky enough to spot a Hooded Siskin, listen closely for their unique call, which sounds like "tsee-tsee-tsee."

This Santa Marta Antpitta (Grallaria bangsi) gave us quiet a show!!! a Couple minutes on The Open, feeding worms!!! Amazing!!
It is endemic to Colombia. It's natural habitat is subtropical or tropical moist montane forest at the Santa Marta Mountains. It is threatened by habitat loss.

Buenos Días amigos operadores, quiero compartirles el estreno de un Vídeo que acabamos de hacer sobre las aves y el taller de Pajareo para niños y niñas de la comunidad vecina a la Reserva el Garcero en el sur de Bolívar, del que fuí voluntario. Este es el link:

Ojalá puedan verlo en el estreno a las 4:30 hora Colombia. Para los que no sepan, La reserva queda a una hora de Mompox en zonas inundables del Río Magdalena. En el Vídeo hay tomas muy bonitas de aves espectaculares como La Garza crestada, La Garza Agami, la Garza Cucharón ( Cochlearius cochlearius ), el Trogon melanurus, y la Galbula ruficauda entre otros. Va a estar muy bonito. Quedan invitados!!!

Very happy for volunteering in the first Birdwatching course for the children of Hatillo de Loba, Bolívar province, Colombia. A Very humble and vulnerable village, close to Mompox, one of the most touristic sites in Colombia. Thanks to and Neotropicos Foundation for this initiative. This Natural Reserve protects one of the most endangered ecosistems in Colombia: The Tropical dry Forest of Magdalena River Basin. Now, with very low budget but with lots of passion and heart they are trying to educate children from nearby villages to learn about their biodiversity, Birds, mamals, vegetation, etc, and encorauge them to become the new generation of environmental protectors and hopefully some day very skilled Birders. I highly recomend ngos such as and to support this Colombian ngo and this very passionate group of young Birders. Everyone who can help this initiative please do. It's worth it. Really. Even more i'm such a place that should have the status of IBA ( important birding area).It's inhabitated by endangered species such as Agami Heron, Boat billed heron, Scarlet Macaw and many, many more Birds, Mamals, Herpets , Butterflies, etc. It's also a place that recieve many migratory Birds. It's the place where i have seen more Protonotary warblers all over Colombia. A fantastic Birding site that still is not very well known and explored by birders.

La bandada más grande de la costa del Pacífico americano esta en acción

Entre el 15 de enero y el 15 de febrero de 2023 más de 600 personas de 50 organizaciones y voluntarios, visitaremos cerca de 130 humedales costeros desde México hasta Chile, para contar aves playeras, como parte del Proyecto de aves playeras migratorias.
