The history of golf in Colombia dates back to the early twentieth century when some enthusiasts of the sport, including Mr. Joaquín Samper, introduced the practice in the country to create the first 9-hole course at the Country Club de Bogotá, to 1917. The professionalism of the sport came at the hands of British and Argentine golfers who arrived in Colombia in 1919, many of whom learned the first

fellow bumps and made golf a sport featured in national and international levels. This was the first seed of golfers who knew the country and who are owed the results we're seeing today with such outstanding athletes as Camilo Villegas and Isabel Baena, who competes in the female version of the LPGA with very good results. With the spread that made the Country Club is brewing a great interest in the sport in other cities, which appeared in the first fields for practice, and which stressed the golfing activities of the Club Campestre de Cali, where he was born Colombian Federation of Golf, a body that would govern the practice in our country. For many years golf was confined to the fields of private clubs to which its members could only access, the situation has been changing the open, some of them its doors to enthusiasts of all ages, promoting tournaments throughout the year. Colombia currently has more than fifty areas, grouped by regional, which hosts local tournaments and qualifiers to the national tournament as the Colombian Open Golf, one of the most important tournaments in Latin America.
