🔝 We recently welcomed Oscar and Daniel from Argentina 🇦🇷 for a 5 day tour to Cartagena and Bogotá, after they’d just finished the La Leyenda del Dorado MTB stage race in Caldas 🚴🏻‍♂️, where TCP was the Official Travel Partner 💯 . Daniel told us, “The whole experience was wonderful, despite the delays with my passport papers. We were very satisfied with everything. Viviana’s a very charming person and Bogota’s definitely a place to stay for various days and get to know better. I hope to return. I think we’ve made friendship bonds with lots of people and that was a great plus. Many thanks to Dave, Viviana and the whole team from The Colombian Project.” 🔝🏅

Thank you Daniel for such kind words and we hope to see you again! 👏🏻

✔️ We’re always exploring new areas and activities around Colombia🇨🇴 and a few weeks ago our Sales Manager, Laura, was invited to Medellín, Antioquia, to learn about some new Community Tourism Experiences. 💯 They were able to visit the Karmata Rúa Reservation near the beautiful town of Jardín, inhabited by the indigenous Emberá Chamí group 🛖🗿, and where the community opened its doors in the most welcoming way imaginable. 🤗 They took a tour along ancestral paths, learnt about their traditions and shared precious time with the people there 🔝 . It was a wonderful and very enriching experience for all involved and we’d like to thank the tourist committee, community leaders, the Governor, ancestral doctors (Jaibanás) and the wise adults or elders who we were able to meet 👏🏻. We hope to take some of our groups there very 🔜 💯

✔️ The final days of our recent trip to Mataven included paddling through the Mataven channel, one of the largest indigenous reservations in Colombia 🇨🇴 and a paradise in the Orinoquia region 🔝🌳. The group also climbed Cerro Mataven 🪨, admiring the petroglyphs, stunning biodiversity and unparalleled landscapes 🌄of one of the spectacular tepuis that guard the entrance to the Mataven channel 💯 . Finally, there was a session to learn about the processing of Yuca and the preparation 🍴of casabe with our Piaroas friends from the La Urbana community deep in the Mataven jungle.

We’d once again like to thank for all their support and belief in this project 👏🏻, for their logistical support 🔝 and
.travel .travel accompanying us in helping develop sustainable tourism in Mataven! 🤝🏻💯 We’re now busy planning the next phase of the project and if you’d like to visit this incredible part of Colombia 🇨🇴 , get in touch with us. 📲

⏩️ Continuing with our recent trip to the incredible Mataven region in the department of Vichada 🇨🇴 , the group were able to learn about the ingenious hunting and fishing techniques used by the indigenous people 🛖of the Orinoco-Amazon, to hunt for food and as part of their everyday lives 🔝 ! It was a very enjoyable and enlightening experience for everyone involved 💯- and thankfully there were no injuries either!

💯 Over the last year The Colombian Project has been working with 🤝🏻in to promote sustainable tourism in the Mataven region, Vichada department, of Colombia 🇨🇴 . Last week, after months of planning lead by our Product Manager, Camilo Ortega, The Colombian Project and various other agencies were able to visit Mataven 👏🏻, and witness the wonders of this region first hand 🔝. On the first day they visited Kenke, home to the Curripacos indigenous people and which is incidentally also home to the Liwi flower 🌺 , the official flower for COP16 in Cali, for which we will be one of the Official Tourism Operators! 🗿A big part of our work at The Colombian Project is checking the activities we offer to our visitors from all around the world 🔝. A few weeks ago our Product Manager, Camilo Ortega, spent 3 days exploring the lowlands of the Sierra Nevada de Santa Marta 🗻🚶🏻‍♂️ for a new trek we’re planning to operate very 🔜 ! It follows the path of the Piedras River to the sea 🌊 , through incredible mountains 🏔️, and also with lots of spiritual elements from the many sacred🛖, historical sites of the indigenous people of the Sierra Nevada de Santa Marta.🗿

💯 The trek starts at Donoma Rock, passes by Bunkuani, an ancient Tayrona complex, where we’ll spend the night with the indigenous Kogis group, learning about their cosmovision and paying tribute to mother-earth or ‘Pachamama’. 🌳The trek finishes on the paradise like beaches🏝️ of Tayrona National Park and the Caribbean Sea and a true adventure and a great, alternative way to enjoy the Sierra Nevada🏔️. This trek works as an excellent warm up for the famous The Lost City trek - which you can read more about on our website and get in touch on our website if you’d like to do either (or both) of these treks on your next trip to Colombia 🇨🇴 🔝

💥 At The Colombian Project we’re always looking for new destinations and experiences 💯 , especially those that positively impact local communities 🔝 . A few weeks ago we had the chance to visit the north of Caldas department with the , starting in the beautiful town of Salamina 🥰✔️. Perched magnificently on top of a dramatic hill, it’s one of Colombia’s heritage towns 📍and has magical colonial architecture around every corner. 🔝We also explored one of the largest wax palm forests in Colombia🌴, the national tree of Colombia and tallest palm in the world! The final stop was in Aguadas, famous for its great coffee ☕️ and the original Iraca palm hats, commonly known as Panama hats, but...they’re not Panamanian❌! President Franklin D. Roosevelt loved these hats that became famous when he was pictured visiting the construction sites of the Panama Canal construction, but they were actually brought from Colombia! 🇨🇴 🫶🏻

Our Story

The Colombian Project is a tour operator that specialises in various nature, adventure and cultural niches, such as cultural discovery, birdwatching, wildlife watching, history and archaeology, cycling and high-mountain trekking amongst others.

We define ourselves as a project given that we’re not a normal travel company in the sense that we have a clear aim which is to deliver sustainable development to Colombia through exclusive and unforgettable experiences which break down barriers each time.

We build relationships with local people and communities and look to invest in Colombia and Colombians wherever we can. Whilst we’re not an NGO, we like to think we have the same outlook in ensuring that our value chain is very well looked after and aided wherever possible, as they are what makes our trips so special, not us. It’s Colombia’s time now and we just want to spread the word, show its beauty and help people fall in love with it, just as we did all those years ago.
