🇬🇧🇺🇸 Orange-breasted Fruiteater
🔬 Pipreola jucunda
Here are some interesting facts about this bird:
1. It’s similar to other pipreolas, but in this case, the male is distinguished by an orange patch on the upper chest. The female is more easily confused with the female Green-and-black Fruiteater (Pipreola riefferii), but it’s smaller and has green legs, not orange.
2. Its range extends from southwestern Colombia to southwestern Ecuador, mainly between altitudes of 600 and 1,900 masl.
3. It’s a quiet bird, usually solitary or in pairs and sometimes joining mixed flocks. It’s common to observe this bird catching fruits in mid-air or from a perch.

Discover the Glaucidium nubicola, a unique and fascinating owl! 🦉
Also known as the Cloud Forest Pygmy Owl, this small bird can be found throughout the western Andes of Colombia and northwestern Ecuador 🌿 Its mottled plumage and bright yellow eyes make it a wonder of nature. Its specific epithet, nubicola, means "dwelling in the clouds" in Latin, as this species is often found in primary or slightly altered humid cloud forests, in mountainous areas with abundant rainfall and rugged terrain. Despite its size (approximately 15 cm in length!), the Glaucidium nubicola has excellent hunting abilities. This species is quite diurnal and feeds on both invertebrates and small vertebrates.
Have you ever had the chance to hear its call?
