About your activity
I will meet you at the entrance to the Carara National Park where we will start the tour. As we proceed down the main trail, where we will observe as the ecosystems of both a dry forest and a rainforest converge. This is the only place in the world where these two types of ecosystems meet. As we progress through the trails, I will point out many bird species that are hiding in the trees, including: Ant birds, Trogons, Manakins, Hummingbirds, flighcatchers, Aracaries Motmots, all native to Costa Rica Just to mention some. For birds that may be harder to see, you can observe them through the telescope that I bring along. For each bird that we encounter, I will describe their habitat, as well as their behavioral characteristics. After 4 hours of exploring the trails, we will walk back to the park’s entrance to end the tour.

A natural sanctuary
The entire tour takes place in Carara National Park, where the dense trees and vegetation make it a popular home for a vast number of animal species, including over 400 species of birds and one of the largest remaining populations of wild scarlet macaws in the country.

What else you should know
The park is easily accessible for people with disabilities.
All trails are flat
Park opens from May-Nov 8 am from Dec -Apr at 7am
We can combine the 6 am boat River birding tour with Carara Park

About your activity

I will meet you at the entrance to the Carara National Park where we will start the tour. After two hours of exploring the trails, we will walk back to the park’s entrance to end the tour.

The entrance to Carara National Park is off of Route 34. If coming from the south, it is about 22 kilometers north of Jaco. If coming from the north, it is about 2.5 kilometers from the Tarcoles bridge.

**Basiliscus**

These are lizards similar to iguanas, but with a more agile and very slender appearance, and in general with smaller proportions. They also differ in having one or two crests, usually one on their heads or a larger one on their backs (which can reach up to a quarter of their tail). His diet is also more eclectic, consuming a wide variety of foods. Nervous and quick in temperament, these lizards are known for their ability to run on water, thanks to their extraordinary speed.

The Three-Toed Sloth is an arboreal mammal that can be found in Central and South America. Its namesake is one of the seven deadly sins (sloth) and the term "three fingers" refers to the three claws it has on each limb.
