The red lord parrot is a common bird in the Caño Negro National Refuge. However, it can be difficult to capture close-up pictures of them because they tend to stay high up in the canopy of trees. In this area, they can be seen feeding on seeds from small bushes along the riverbank.

The green iguana is actually green only when it is a juvenile. As they get older, they change to a grey-greenish colour pattern. During the breeding season, males turn into orange colour patterns, and the oldest ones develop some bluish shadows.
Iguanas are great subjects to take pictures of because they remain still, even if you get close to them.

The afternoon light could be very nice. With some reddish-orange colours might highlight your pictures with a very warm colour scale.
The green iguana during breeding season turns in orange colours. The older it is, the more orange patterns it gets. Breeding season is around September until December.

The Pied-billed grebe is an uncommon species in the Refuge of Caño Negro, but we were lucky to have a couple nesting there on the lagoon, and they stick around for a few weeks. When you go on a boat tour in Caño Negro, you never know what you might find. The expectation is always the best part.

How do I reach Caño Negro Refuge from Bijagua
If you are in Bijagua, follow route number 6 to the north up to the intersection to route number 730. Take right and follow the route up to the intersection with route number 4. Take left and after a few hundred meters, take left in route 138 to Caño Negro Refuge.

If you are in Guanacaste, go to Bijagua, and then follow the same instructions.

I like the rainy season. It could be taff because light many times is not very good, but you can get some great moments. A storm was coming to the lagoon of Caño Negro Refuge. And an egret flying against the super dark sky and pop up. Not has great as would to be, but I am happy.

Very soon in the morning, a few Black Vultures were standing quietly on the riverside. The background was perfectly dark, the birds were very very close to the boat. I didn't have to use much retouch for this shot.

Look at me in the eye!
Caimans live in Caño Negro, and also a few crocodiles.
With basilisk, these are the most common reptiles to see.
It will not be a real Caño Negro Boat Tour in Costa Rica without them.

Especially during the dry season, from December to April-May, you will not miss spotting caimans all around.
