We love these seeds, most that come from the jungle, down the rivers and into the sea…to start colonies elsewhere.

As we paddle through the estuaries, we notice that every canal is different on our Mangroves Nature Tour.
Some canals bring pure silence except for nature, some bring lots of wildlife, some lead us to the rivers that release their fresh water into these mangroves, and some bring us to the gorgeous river mouth of pure seclusion.

Sometimes we venture down the rivers that empty into the mangrove estuary. Just to see what we can encounter. Usually we find some interesting wildlife like Jesus Christ Lizard running across the water,
or Boas wrapped tightly in the tree branches,
or Bare-Throated Tiger Herons stalking the edge of the water, hidden in the grass.
And many times, we see cows 🐮

This simple photo shows so many reasons of why #welovemangroves. 🥰 To some it might just look like a bunch of mud and trees. To us, it is an incredible ecosystem in one simple photo. 1. The tide line: the tide fluctuates in and out of the mangroves daily, making one of the requirements of the mangroves be to have to survive in salty conditions and under water. 2. The Tea Mangrove (Pelliciera rhizophorae) is an endangered species, located only on a few coastlines in Central America. 3. There are a few stationed and growing Tea Mangrove babies in this picture. These super resilient babes will start to produce their own seeds in 3-4 years. 4. The mucky, ultra fine mud is full of micro organisms and and minerals. The mud helps to hold the roots in place and protects the tree during storms and inundations. And most importantly, helps the roots to store the carbon from escaping into our atmosphere. #mangroves #discoverdominical #pineappledominical #kayaktourscostarica #puravida #treesofcostarica
