Witness the alignment of the sun with the pre-Columbian spheres located at the Archaeological Monument Finca 6!

The phenomenon occurs during the solar cenith, whose dates depend on the exact latitude of the observer, in southern Costa Rica is in April and between August and September.

You will be able to witness the show, this Saturday 13, Sunday 14 and even Monday, April 15, 2024, at the Archaeological Monument Finca 6, located in Palmar de Osa. at its special time from 5 a.m. to 7 a.m.

Admission will be free and does not require reservation; access is only to the archaeological site, starting at 8 a.m. you can enter the museum with regular admission.

Yesterday was an amazing day for our guests at Casita Corcovado in Drake Bay!

They started on a tour with Divine Dolphin and found a mama and baby humpback whale within minutes of launch, followed by spotted dolphins, and bottlenose dolphins.

Then, on their night tour with The Bug Lady, they saw many more animals including spiders, frogs, lizards, moths, butterflies, an opossum, raccoons, a 3-toed sloth, and the ultimate finale….a Baird’s Tapir!

Another magical day in Drake Bay at Casita Corcovado!

Dinner! Created by what’s in your refrigerator?!?

I am so grateful to have all of this fresh food!

Yellow-finned Tuna - gifted by John Garafola, Kathy, Charlotte Wiles, George, and, of course, their amazing Captain, Bryan, of Good Catch Costa Rica!

Garlic, onion, ginger, pineapple, sautéed at different stages - I definitely channeled Kolby Kvam when I was carmelizing the pineapple - remembering the hash browns at the with Kendall J Williams, Ryan Ashley (who I can’t seem to tag), Nancy Brian, Karen Priebe, Tom Priebe, Don Belair and the rest of the crew…

It worked 🤗. I added the tuna and soy sauce right at the end. It is delicious!

I like what’s in my refrigerator these days.

A beautiful Wolf Moon is the perfect end to a magical day filled with animal sightings!

On my short stroll along Playa Colorado today I saw so many creatures: Sandpipers, a Roadside Hawk, Hermit Crabs, Scarlet Macaws, Black Vultures, a tiny Seastar (that was alive and returned to the sea), a Praying Mantis (that wasn’t alive and was kept for our growing dead bug collection), a Postman butterfly, Orange barred sulfur butterflies, and an Iguana (sunning itself on a rock he had to swim to get to).

Back at the Casita a cat (that may be an Oncilla), Scarlet Rumped Tanagers, a Clay-colored thrush, our resident Iguana (Rusty) Capuchin monkeys and more!

This video shows a magnificent frigate bird trying to scoop food from the surface.

Fun Facts: They are seabirds, but their feathers aren’t waterproof so they can’t get them wet or they eventually drown. They’re known as the pirates of the sea because they often harass other birds until they regurgitate or release their prey allowing them steal the food for themselves.

With a length of 89–114 centimetres (2 ft 11 in – 3 ft 9 in) and wingspan of 2.17–2.44 m (7 ft 1 in – 8 ft 0 in) it is the largest species of frigatebird. They often fly thousands of km without landing, sleeping for 14 second intervals while riding wind currents. Crazy, huh?
