Our Story

Costa Rica Dreams Sport Fishing originally opened its doors nearly 30 years ago in 1989 with only a small 26’ center console boat based out of a beautiful pristine bay in Quepos, Costa Rica. The owner/captain was an avid fisherman from the States and knew that providing a quality experience for guests was essential, especially when trying to make a living with his favorite hobby, fishing! The small operation quickly became well known throughout the Americas and he couldn’t keep up with the ever growing demand using only one boat. Additional boats were added to the fleet changing the operation from a one-man band, to a multi boat operation. Twelve years later the owner unfortunately fell terminally ill and was left with no other option than to sell the company.

In 2000, the company’s new owners decided to relocate the company 35 miles to the North, into another beautiful pristine bay called Herradura Bay. Construction of a new 5-Star resort & marina (Los Suenos) was well underway, providing a fresh opportunity for the company. Once construction of the marina was finalized the company’s boats were then relocated from the bay into their own new slips, making boarding & offloading for guests a much more comfortable experience. Today we remain the only fishing charter company with a brick and mortar office within the renowned Los Suenos Resort & Marina, operating with our own fleet of 5 charter boats ranging from 32’ to 50’ in length.

In February 2016 the company was sold to my wife (Diana) and I. Growing up in Alaska and Washington State we had both been lifelong boaters, anglers and loved the tropics. As such our vacations would often consist of bare boating in Florida, Virgin Islands, Belize or Europe. Diana was burned out after working 20 years for Boeing and ready for a change. I was a partner in a global engineering firm that kept me traveling around the world 60-70% of the time. We were both ready for a change and when this opportunity presented itself we knew immediately this was made for us. We were seeking a new adventure and jumped at the opportunity! We sold all of our personal belongings and caught the first flight out! Today we live full time in beautiful Costa Rica (Paradise) and are very hands on with the business, making minor adjustments daily to ensure our guests have a First Class experience each and every time they fish with us.
