We have more answers to our most asked questions here 👇
5️⃣ Is it safe? The School is located in a very safe residential neighborhood, a 5 to 10-minute walk to the town center. We also have a coded front gate which only students and staff know the code to, 24 hour video surveillance cameras, and a night guard. We also have a non-visitors policy to make sure that the School is a safe and private place for all of our guests. Truly your home away from home! 🏠
6️⃣ Can I extend my stay and take different programs? Yes and yes! An extension is subject to room availability, so let us know as soon as possible if you want to stay longer. In order to extend you may have to change rooms and room type. Your extension price is dependent upon room type available. To change your program(s), let us know by Wednesday which class combination you want to switch to and we’ll do our best to accommodate you. 🔁
7️⃣ Can I use your surfboards on my own time? Unfortunately, no, we do not loan our boards to students outside of class to minimize our equipment loss and damage. If you wish to surf outside of class time, you will need to bring your own board or rent one from a surf shop in town. 🏄🏻♀️
8️⃣ Can I take classes at the School if I am staying somewhere else? Yes! We offer our week-long course to travelers who have other lodging. You can book on our trip planner, and pick the classes-only option. 🗓

Answers to our most asked questions here 👇
1️⃣ Is food included? Food is not included in our programs. Our guest rooms have refrigerators, the school has a fully equipped shared kitchen, and there is a wide array of restaurants and grocery stores within walking distance. Jacó also has many restaurants that cater to a variety of dietary needs like gluten-free and vegan. 🥙
2️⃣ What items do I need for surf? Rashguards are recommended as they protect from the sun and surfboard wax rashes. If you cannot buy one before you arrive there are many surf shops in town where you can get one. We also recommend that you have sunscreen and a towel. 🌊
3️⃣ How much spending money do I need? Personal spending money varies from person to person, depending on eating preferences, how much shopping you want to do and how many activities/outings you would like to participate in outside of the school. You can keep your stay very budget friendly by cooking most of your own meals. 💸
4️⃣ When is the best time to come? It’s always a great time to come to School of the World, and it just depends on your preference. For surfing, The Playa Jacó area is widely regarded as the most consistent surf in the country. The water temperature stays warm year round and the variety of breaks in the area ensures uncrowded waves for everyone. The green season in Costa Rica (from May to November) is also considered “peak” time for surfing because that is when we receive southerly swells. The waves average 3-4 feet and up, and can be sizeable at times. If you’re an advanced surfer looking for the best surf conditions, this is the best time of year for waves.
The Dry season in Costa Rica (from December through April) averages a little smaller waves than Green season waves, but are still very consistent and great for beginner to intermediate surfers. 🇨🇷
