Quetzal or Phoenix of the Forest, beautiful emerald birds that adorn the trees of the Cloud Forests in Monteverde as if they were jewels.

Located mostly at high altitude, with an almost indescribable camouflage that manages to fit perfectly with the magical atmosphere of our cloud forests.

The resplendent Quetzal is a bird in danger of extinction in its entire area that ranges from southern Mexico to northern Panama due to the loss of its habitat, the Cloud Forest.

Its danger of extinction is affected by the lack of suitable nesting sites, which is based on decomposing trees, since its beaks are not strong enough to pierce live wood; for them they obtain to enlarge the holes made by woodpeckers or toucans.

The most famous habitat of the Quetzal is the Monteverde Cloud Forest in Costa Rica, which is located in the North Central Region.

The best time of year to appreciate these incredible birds is during the breeding season, from mid-February to June or July.

In addition, the habitat of the Quetzal is an excellent habitat for many other animals, such as hummingbirds that you will surely see by the dozens; and sloths that conquer everyone's heart..

| EL MEJOR DESTINO EMERGENTE POR THE TIMES Y SUNDAY TIME TRAVEL AWARDS, ES PARA COSTA RICA

Costa Rica fue seleccionada como el mejor destino emergente, por su apuesta a la Sostenibilidad, el bienestar, variedad de actividades al aire libre y su estilo de vida que se resume en el “pura vida”, durante la novena edición de los Times y Sunday Times Travel Awards.

Algunos de los destinos que recomiendan la publicacion son: el Parque Nacional Manuel Antonio, el Parque Nacional de Corcovado, el Refugio de Vida Silvestre Gandoca -Manzanillo y Monteverde:

“Los bosques nublados se suman al sentido de aventura de Costa Rica y Monteverde, hogar del 2,5 por ciento de toda la biodiversidad del mundo, es el más amigable para los niños; explóralo desde paseos aéreos, un tranvía aéreo o tirolinas”, mencionó Lucy Perrin.

Y también, sugieren a los turistas visitar Playa Conchal y otras playas ubicadas en el Noreste de Guanacaste; sin embargo la capital, San José es otro lugar que sugieren visitar. Algunos lugares que se destacan son Barrio Amón, donde los edificios antiguos funcionan como galerías de arte y también la capital gastronómica de Barrio Escalante.

Durante el primer semestre del año ingresaron al país por vía aérea 36 270 turistas provenientes de Reino Unido.

“Este premio refuerza el posicionamiento de Costa Rica como destino turístico en Europa. Además, constituye una gran oportunidad, en especial porque el premio fue otorgado por uno de los medios más prestigiosos de Reino Unido y este reconocimiento se origina a partir de una votación de sus lectores”, destacó Ireth Rodríguez, jefa de Promoción del Instituto Costarricense de Turismo.
