(10)

Changing Tide Tours has had over 7,500 guests tour the Golfo Dulce with us during the past eight years. We are proud of the fact that, in addition to being the longest operating tour boat provider on the OSA and Golfito, we are also known as the ‘Premium Tour’ on the Gulf. That's because our custom-built tour boats are safe, comfortable and well equipped; and they are always manned by a profession

al, licensed Captain and English speaking Guide team. Come with us and enjoy a fun, informative, 25+ mile guided tour as the Golfo Dulce (‘Sweet Gulf’) serves up its many “magical” wonders. Whales, Dolphins, Manta Rays, Whale Sharks, Sea Turtles, numerous Fish, and Sea Birds—all these have been seen by our guests. Our tour boats are equipped with quiet, eco-friendly four stroke motors, contoured seats and a full-canopy sun top for your comfort and protection. After a short crossing, you will experience the Gulf’s lush, rugged Eastern Shore, up close and personal to "one of the world’s three tropical fjords." Along with your Dolphin Cruise and informative eco- tour, your crew will offer Swimming, Snorkeling and Plane Boarding when and where conditions permit. And when you return to the boat, you can enjoy a fresh water rinse and fresh fruit. Tour is 4-5 hours.

Did you know that for every person that joins us on one of our tours, we plant a mangrove? 🌱

That's right, we are committed to conserving the natural beauty of the mangroves around the Golfo Dulce. These incredible ecosystems play a vital role in protecting our coastlines, providing a safe haven for countless marine species, and even helping combat climate change. 🌎

So, when you embark on a tour with us, not only will you have an unforgettable experience, but you'll also be contributing to a sustainable future. How amazing is that? 🌟

🌟Fun Fact Friday! 💫

Did you know that hammerhead sharks can actually tan? 🦈🔆

These incredible sharks love to chill in shallow waters, and as a result, some species have developed the ability to tan. Their skin may turn from light grey to dark grey, and the best thing is they’re at no risk of skin cancer. 😎

Studying how hammerheads can tan without getting cancer could be a game-changer for us humans too! 🙌🏼 Understanding their unique ability might unlock valuable insights into preventing and treating melanoma!☀️🦈

🌟Fun Fact Friday!💫

Did you know that sloths are surprisingly good at swimming? 🏊‍♀️ Life can be difficult on the ground for sloths since their long clawed arms and shorter, weak hind legs make it impossible to stand on all fours. However, they are surprisingly strong swimmers. Sloth species living near mangroves or rivers sometimes drop into water bodies and swim large distances when searching for potential mating partners or seeking new territory.

Happy International Sloth Day! 🦥🌟🌿

🌟Fun Fact Friday!💫

Did you know that dolphins, with their extraordinary hearing abilities, actually have no sense of smell?👃🏾🐬

Despite having olfactory tracts, they lack olfactory nerves. So, if they can't smell, does that mean they can't taste either? 🤔 Well, here's the fascinating part: Dolphins can only taste salt!🧂Scientists have studied DNA of a number of whales and dolphins and found that the ability to taste for sweet, savory, sour, and bitter had all devolved to the point of being unusable! 🤯

🌟Fun Fact Friday! 💫

Have you noticed that a humpback whale’s head and pectoral fins are really bumpy?! 🐋

These dark bumps, called tubercles, are actually large hair follicles that cover the humpback's head and pectoral fins. But there's more to these tubercles than meets the eye! 👀

Researchers believe that humpbacks may use these tubercles to sense vibrations in the water. When humpbacks are hunting for their favorite food, they rely on large schools of baitfish that create sound and vibrations. The nerves within the tubercles could help these magnificent creatures detect these vibrations and locate their prey more efficiently. 🫨

But that's not all! The tubercles also serve another purpose. They make humpback whales more agile in the water. How? Well, these bumpy structures create lift and reduce drag as the whales swim through the ocean. This added maneuverability allows them to navigate through the water with ease, even though they are massive creatures. 🌊

🌟Fun Fact Friday💫

Did you know that flying fish can't actually fly? 🐟✈️ Despite their name, they aren’t capable of powered flight. These incredible fish propel themselves out of the water at speeds of over 35 mph!💨 Once airborne, their "wings" help them glide for up to 650 feet (200 meters)! 🙌 So next time you see a flying fish, remember they're more like underwater acrobats than pilots!🐠🌊

Good news: a new law will ban companies in England and Northern Ireland from selling or advertising low-welfare animal tourism experiences abroad!

Now that the bill has been passed, the next step is for Defra to determine which activities it will cover. We believe that captive cetacean ‘entertainment’ must be included in the new legislation.

Dolphins and whales haven’t been kept captive in the UK for the last 30 years, but some travel companies continue to sell tickets for captive cetacean venues in other countries.

If this cruel practice isn’t allowed in the UK, then it shouldn’t be supported abroad. It’s unacceptable that travel giants such as TUI continue to profit from the suffering of these highly intelligent animals.
