Ohhhhh ... I found a new favorite tropical fruit ... the mangostan! With the odd color of a dark eggplant, this little fruit is full of sweet, delicious seeds, and is available for only a shor season in Costa Rica. YUM! Have you ever tried one?

While their "howl" might sound like a monster coming to get you in the night, the disposition of the howler monkey is rarely aggressive, preferring to hang out in the treetops and munch on leaves. Visit them at Casa Sarita!

When I first brought my best friend to the beach in Manuel Antonio, Costa Rica, she couldn't believe there were beaches in the world that were so wild and practically deserted ... yet so beautiful and accessible. Some days it feels like you have the whole beach to yourself. What are you waiting for?

Enjoying the back patio this evening, I felt something against my leg and dress. I turned my phone toward the chair and spotted this friendly fellow smiling up at me. He looked prepared to jump further up, so I gently wiggled my dress to shoo him away, which is when he promptly jumped onto my chest and almost went down the front of my dress. Which is when I screamed. He's fine. I'm fine. Everything's fine. Wildlife is awesome. 🐸

OH. MY. GOSH. Y'ALL. We had a mother and baby three-toed sloth at Casa Sarita! Thank goodness had his trusty zoom lens. LOOK AT THAT BABY!!

Things are not always as they seem... 🦥 While this three-toed sloth seems to be "smiling," he is actually quite injured and very ill. 😔 When we first saw him near Casa Sarita, we thought it unusual for him to be at eye level, behind our electric meter. But we knew sometimes sloths come down to the ground to p**p! We took a few pictures and moved on... But I could not get him off of my mind. ⏰️ About an hour later, I went back to check on him, and he was slumped over on the ground!😭 (see pic) It was heartbreaking to see him this way, and I knew something was very wrong, so I called for help. A local wildlife rehab volunteer assessed him, agreed he was not well, and whisked him away in a special sloth duffel bag! (See video of the rescue in comments) She was kind enough to keep me updated, and soon informed me that he had been electrocuted and was very weak. 😭😭😭 A few days later, the vets amputated one of his arms, which had been rendered useless by the accident. 🦥 I am happy to report he survived surgery, is eating well, and is on the rebound! Nothing is certain, but we hope to see him released back near Casa Sarita sometime soon! (1) We are working with ICE and neighbors to upgrade the power lines so they are less dangerous to wildlife, (2) Support wildlife rescue centers and rehabbers - they do amazing work!

The look of confusion when you're not sure which region is in rainy season and which region is in dry.

We get a lot of questions as to when it's best to visit certain regions ... and to be honest ... any time is the perfect time to visit Costa Rica, but it depends on what you want to see. If you don't mind the rain, you'll be able to see the color of our rainforest at its most vibrant, and the animal life will be more active as they begin to migrate. Our dry season is perfect for those looking to spend their time on the beach surfing and relaxing by the warm coastal waters. Both seasons have their perks, but how you wish to venture through Costa Rica is up to you.
