It is with mixed emotions we announce that our dream in paradise, Villas Elementos, is for sale. It is time for us to move on to a new dream! We will be moving to Portugal next year! Updates forthcoming as things happen.

Sloths set the pace for the many ‘Slow Travelers’ drifting along Costa Rica’s Caribbean coast. Here are 5 philo-sloth-ical tips that sloths teach aspiring ‘Slow Travelers’. 1. Slow Down: Sloths take life slowly. Literally. They move about 41 yards a day and their average speed is about .3 mph. I’ve chosen to stay put for two weeks in one spot and only venture as far as I can walk yet I’ve seen monkeys, aguites, red frogs, toucans and parrots. And, met an amazing array of Slow Travelers, including of the human species. 2. Be Yourself: Sloths have been named for a cardinal sin (laziness), but the fact is that in spite of their smelliness and filth (more on that later), who can resist a sloth? Being a Workaway taught me I just need to fulfill my work obligation and be myself. 3. Consume less: Sloths are models of energy saving. They eat a minimal diet, expend minimal energy and on hot days can even dial down their metabolism. All I need here is a bathing suit, fresh fruit and walks on the beach. With no TV and weak internet, I focus on the present and tune into my environment. 4. Help others: Sloths move so slowly that mold and algae grow on them. Literally. But hosting these organisms, the sloths help themselves and humanity. The algae provides a nutrient-rich diet. And the mold displays potential for new cancer treatments. The Workaway experience is a win-win situation, too.
