Leaf insects belong to the order Phasmida (or Phasmatodea), but belong to different superfamilies.
More than 3000 species have been described. They are a group specialized in camouflage (crypsis) with extraordinary colors, shapes and behaviors that confuse them with the vegetation on which they inhabit and on which they feed.
The leaf shape of these animals is reinforced by the fact that their wings are adorned with patterns that are very reminiscent of the innervations of plant leaves and because their legs are endowed with lamellar expansions that blend in with those of the leaves themselves.
