Off to a great start of our Birding Southern Ecuador Tour! We just had fantastic views of this handsome male Long-wattled Umbrellabird (Cephalopterus penduliger).
This extremely spectacular-looking bird is limited to pristine forests of western Ecuador and Colombia.
We’re staying at the aptly named Umbrellabird Lodge in the Buenaventura Reserve part of the Jocotoco Foundation.

Orange-breasted Falcon / Falco deiroleucus. One of the rarest raptors in tropical american countries! This pair was spotted in the magical Tikal National Park Guatemala. 😃

Largest bird in Costa Rica, nearly 5’ tall and a wingspan of 8’, stands out both flying and standing on feeding flooded grounds.
This is at a nest site neat Caño Negro National Wildlife Refuge in the northern part of Costa Rica.
