New to us…new to Samara about 2 years ago? A farmers market and quite a nice one too! Saturday only 9-1. Perhaps a plan is for Friday arrival and then hit the market Saturday at 9! Several breakfast vendors, fresh fish and meats, your normal hippy dippy jewelry and handmade soaps…even a plant vendor...two musicians/groups… very worth while! Correction!: open 7am to 1 pm Saturday’s!

As you may have heard the USA CDC is implementing new re-entry restrictions for international travelers...specifically a negative covid test taken within three days of boarding your plane. Here is what we know so far:

Testing is presently available in Nosara and Nicoya at private labs (each about 45 minutes from Samara)...results MAY be available within three days (need to confirm). There is also available a private service that will come to the house (or your hotel, etc.) and administer immediate tests but the cost is $300 per person.

Today we read this encouraging news:

Costa Rica
The Costa Rican Tourism Institute shared: “Anticipating that the government of the United States of America could take a measure like this, we’ve established a working group that is coordinating with private laboratories certified by the Ministry of Health to administer the RT-PCR tests in Costa Rica. The plan is to have these tests available to US travelers and tourists of other nationalities throughout the country, for less than $100 each.

“The world is experiencing a pandemic whose trend is to take action and adjust to changes on the fly. Costa Rica is a destination committed to complying with health protocols, and we thank travelers for their trust.”

This news arrives as Costa Rica’s international arrivals numbers nearly doubled from November to December. December 2020 registered the entry of 71,000 tourists by air, almost doubling the visitation registered in November 2020, during which 36,044 were reported. The increase is due in part to the return of 20 airlines from Costa Rica’s main tourism markets and the announcement of new routes at the end of the year.

We are presently in the process of upgrading La Paila to fiber optic service. If all goes well... : ) the internet (and possibly more) will go to 50G from the 3G or 5G we have now. It should also be far more reliable. Keep your fingers crossed but could be done as soon as early next week.

After an unusually rainy end to the rainy season (complicated by Hurricane Eta to the north for several days), Guanacaste peninsula is drying out and the sun is shining! Marilu and Santiago sent these photos this morning. Santiago is getting the gardening done as he can and Graevin appears religiously on Tuesday for pool service.
