My riding buddy and friend Randy Tischmann, on the cover of the first issue of Can Am BMX news, published by my first sponsor Micheal Carruth of Chicago. I was a test rider for him and we tested parts, destroyed stuff and traveled around in a big green station wagon getting huge air.
We then sold the magazines at the track, Itasca Illinois for 5 bucks, it was fun and I learned a lot too. We would go to bike trade shows as Press and court the dealers and manufacturers to give us parts and bikes and for a fee we would do our best to wreck them and write stories, then print the mag. Good times, wish I had this old issue or any of them,,first good pics of me getting huge air. We later got sponsored by Team JAG BMX and got rad at the Plantation St Louis track during the ESPN Championships first time BMX was on National TV,,which became the foundation of the Olympics of BMX. Randy was a fun dude to ride with, new all the tricks, and also jammed on the guitar perfect Van Halen and Yngwie Malmsteen,,he was a savant of sorts but would throw a heck of a tantrum if stuff wasnt his way, lol. He wouldnt go on camera with his bike unless it had flight cranks so I loaned him mine..cracked me up.
