An interesting article from the Tico Times. It seems a recent bill to further protect sailfish populations from incidental fishing and the consumption of sailfish has been blocked by Costa Rican lawmakers. Sailfish have seen numbers decline in recent years and they are stilled practiced as catch and release only by law for all sport fishing charters in Costa Rica. We are all for sustainable fishing, as we know that these fish are a prized catch for so many of our clients. It would be sad to see these numbers decline further due to illegal fishing practices.

We were very fortunate enough to see some migratory humpback whales on a recent trip, including a very playful baby whale which enjoyed splashing it's tail and breaching close to the boat 🐋🐳 August and September are prime months to see these whales which come up from the Antarctic water to breed and give birth off the coast of Costa Rica. Rhino Charger

The Rhino Charger is a 31-foot on the waterline (34-foot overall length) Island Hopper powered by a 450hp turbo diesel Cummings engine in pristine condition. With a top speed of 30 knots, the Rhino Charger can reach Costa Rica’s Continental Shelf in thirty minutes. Custom designed in 2005, the American built Rhino Charger sports a tremendous 12.5-foot beam, which translates into smooth dry rides. The huge open fishing cockpit provides plenty of room for everyone.

The Rhino Charger is the only boat in the Tamarindo fleet equipped with a fly bridge. The fly bridge and covered cockpit provide plenty of cool shade in which to relax. Below deck a V berth cabin and head (bathroom) ensure everyone is comfortable. Extremely stable and able to safely withstand anything the sea can dish out, the Rhino Charger is as tough as her name.

The Rhino Charger is maintained to an exacting standard based on Captain Rick’s vast experience with US Coast Guard standards. The boat is constantly maintained to provide guests with a safe and comfortable experience while at sea. Rods and tackle are always maintained and kept in top shape…you never know when you’re going to land the fish of a lifetime!
