Today Rancho Coco - Costa Rica presents you baby leatherback turtles (or baula). The leatherback turtle is the biggest of the seven species of sea turtles. It frequents all the oceans. In Costa Rica it is present in the Pacific Ocean and frequents the northern beaches like Playa Grande, Playa Ventanas, Playa Carmoronal. It is also present on the Caribbean coast in Tortuguero and in the refuge of Manzanillo Gandoca.

The American crocodile can measure up to 6 meters long and weigh over 900 kilos. They are often found in large rivers and lakes, but they can also live in salt water (they can be found on some beaches) and swim a hundred kilometers in the ocean from one river to another.

Here is the presentation of a new emblematic animal of Costa Rica.
On the Pacific coast of Costa Rica, you will find the Lapa Roja (scarlet macaw). They are large parrots that live in tropical forests. They can measure up to 86 centimeters and weigh up to 1kg. Their average lifespan is 80 years but some individuals can live up to 100 years.

Today Ranco Coco presents the red-eyed tree frog (Agalychnis callidryas)
Its red eyes with vertical pupils are the origin of its name. Its habits are nocturnal. Its predators are nocturnal birds, bats and snakes that eat it despite the presence of toxic substances in its skin.
