Today we commemorate 200 years of the voluntary decision made by the people of Nicoya to join Costa Rica on July 25, 1824.

The annexation of Nicoya 200 years ago was more than a mere expansion of territory. It was a decision that profoundly shaped the Costa Rica we know today – geographically, economically, culturally, and politically.

We celebrate the integration of Nicoya has added depth and diversity to Costa Rican identity. Here at Palo Verde Boat Tours we embrace and represent the indigenous heritage, culture, food, recipes, ways of living and wild nature in one single place. !Que viva guanacaste!

Keeping the traditions alive is important for identity, here you’ll appreciate through viewing and tasting how a big part of the Guanacaste gastronomy has been inherited from our Indigenous ancestors. Many of our plates are made using the ancient woodfire technique no electricity or gas just wood to enhance the natural flavor of our food.

Another example of how your visit helped us to provide working opportunities and support the growth of the economy in our community is Jose Francisco "Chamalita" Angulo - 66 years old was in charge of painting this mural on the top wall of our restaurant

The Jabiru is the tallest bird in Costa Rica on average is 4 ft and 8 ft with open wings. His stunning nest is around 6 ft. Unfortunately, the Jabiru is considered in danger of extinction. Hence, it’s estimated that in Costa Rica are less than 100 specimens most of them located in Palo Verde National Park.

Supporting rural and sustainable tourism entrepreneurship like ours is a way to preserve the natural habitats for this amazing bird
