So what’s been happening at La Casa Roja? Well, we are making lemonade, looking for silver linings and finding the bright side. In November, the neighbours behind us built a two-story casita at the back of their property. And that’s great; everyone should be able to make improvements to their property. Unfortunately for us however, instead of a lovely view of palm trees, we now had what looked like a drive in movie screen looming above our back wall. While we briefly considered projecting movies on it and selling tickets, a better option suggested itself when I stumbled across the Instagram account of local mural artist Nadya.travelart. She creates these amazing murals that highlight the local fauna and flora of Costa Rica. So instead of considering the wall a gigantic intrusive structure, her artwork inspired us to see it as a great big blank canvas onto which we could create something fun and artistic that celebrates the nature of Central America — the main reason we starting coming to Costa Rica in the first place. We are so thrilled to work with Nadya. She is so creative — and so patient! 😁 She took our vague ideas and suggestions and created an amazing custom design for the space that is going to totally transform the yard into a fun and colourful space. Nadya started painting yesterday and we can’t wait to keep revealing the design as work progresses. Bet you can’t guess what the star of the mural is going to be!
