Belgrade International Model United Nations – BIMUN 2020
Belgrade International Model United Nations – BIMUN 2020 (18 – 22 March 2020) is the 17th annual international youth conference and will be focused on the theme "The Future We Want, The UN We Need".
BIMUN 2020 - University Committees and Topics: * SECURITY COUNCIL: Climate crisis - a threat to international peace and security; * SECURITY COUNCIL CRISIS COMMITTEE: Escalating violence on the Arabian Peninsula; * ECONOMIC AND SOCIAL COUNCIL (ECOSOC): Financing for sustainable development; * HUMAN RIGHTS COUNCIL: The protection of human rights in the context of peaceful protests;
* UNODC - The Commission on Narcotic Drugs (CND): Countering illicit drug production and trafficking. BIMUN JUNIOR 2020 - High School Committees and Topics: * SECURITY COUNCIL: Prevention of an arms race in outer space; * SECURITY COUNCIL CRISIS COMMITTEE: Re-emerging conflict in Kashmir: Threat of a nuclear war; * GENERAL ASSEMBLY III COMMITTEE: The impact of Artificial Intelligence on global society; * HUMAN RIGHTS COUNCIL: Preventing and eliminating child, early and forced marriage; * UNITED NATIONS ENVIRONMENTAL ASSEMBLY (UNEA): Youth climate action for environmental challenges and sustainability. Aside from work in the BIMUN committees, we will have plenary sessions with participation by experts. BIMUN 2020 General Assembly Plenum will be held on the final day of the conference, with the topic: "UN75 dialogue - The Future We Want, The UN We Need". Application for delegates and delegations from 01 November 2019 to 31 January 2020. Participants of the conference will be students from all over the world. The United Nations Association of Serbia has been organizing Belgrade International Model UN – BIMUN', a simulation of the work of the UN bodies, since 2004. What sets BIMUN apart is the high level of knowledge gained, modeling with firm rules of procedure based upon the real working procedures of UN bodies, as well as the very current issues that are covered. Emphasis is placed on the preparation period for participants and realistic simulation.
BIMUN 2020 will be an opportunity for diplomatic debates, with respect to multiculturalism and democratic values, but also for connecting young leaders. The conference will have a rich social life and special events (BIMUN party, BIMUN Diplomats Ball). The working language will be English. All BIMUN 2020 participants will receive certificates for participating in BIMUN 2020 and Best delegates will receive a special certificate. The BIMUN Project has been supported by the UN Secretary General, WFUNA President and UN Resident Coordinator in Serbia, as well as the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Serbia. Like in previous years, the conference will be located in the Palace of Serbia, National Assembly of Serbia, Belgrade City Hall and several Serbian Ministries.
