Before anyone starts to freak out, here is my understanding of the new regulations SO FAR. Based on what I’ve read re travel to Cuba, here’s what will be affected:
• 🚫 GROUP people-to-people educational travel;
• 🚫 licenses for private aircraft and boats;
• 🚫 organized tours sold by cruise ship lines for their passengers;
• 🚫 CRUISES. As of tomorrow, June 5, 2019, booking cruises to Cuba will be no more. Any trips booked prior to tomorrow will be honored;
• INDIVIDUAL TRAVEL: INDIVIDUAL TRAVEL HAS NOT BEEN PROHIBITED. YOU CAN STILL TRAVEL TO CUBA UNDER THE 'SUPPORT FOR THE CUBAN PEOPLE' CATEGORY (for as long as it exists);
• NOT commercial flights - you can still fly all of the major carriers;
• NOT flights/cruises/airbnbs purchased before June 5;
• travel for university groups, academic research, journalism and professional meetings;
• your receipts more than ever - each must be kept and itineraries recorded in the (off) chance that you are audited
This is a constantly evolving situation. As more clarification and information comes down the pike, just like the last time, we’ll see what we see.
