When you stay at our apartments we can plan ahead and stock the fridge with some essential items. We can point you in the right direction to find vendors and markets, but we can also collect some food items to save you time and hassle.

Most of our guests enjoy eating at the local restaurants for dinner. We can also prepare an authentic Cuban meal for special occasions, or just because you don't want to cook on vacation!

When I leave the hotel resort or stay in an Airbnb what currency should I use?

It used to be that tourists could exchange dollars or euros for CUC (Convertible Cuban Pesos) at the hotel or local bank. This currency has been discontinued. Off-resort, it's best to carry cash in American dollars, Canadian dollars or Euros. A lot of vendors do not accept credit cards, so cash is essential. For giving tips (very welcome in Cuba), only notes (not coins) are able to be used by the locals. Therefore, carry a bunch of US$1 or CAD$5.

When you stay at Casa Rio (one of two apartments offered by CasaCuba), you have private use of two balconies. The first has a swing seat, and mural painted by an artist local to Matanzas. From here you can watch the fisherman come and go, and people watch along Calle Navaez down below. The second balcony is on the other side of the apartment and overlooks Calle Rio. Here you can see the locals going to work in the morning, and see amazing old American cars from the 1950s. You might even catch an evening sunset if you're not out having fun on the town!

When you book Casa Luna, you have balcony access AND private use of a rooftop terrace overlooking the bay of Matanzas!

We are happy to provide free WiFi to all guests staying at our apartments. Accessing WiFi in Cuba can be tricky, and usually involves a complicated login on each attempt to access it in a public square. However, we have been able to bring WiFi directly into our apartments, with a password only required once. So bring your favourite devices. Or if you want, we want give you the password and you can stay off grid and enjoy a break from social media!!

When you stay at a CasaCuba apartment we can help arrange for you to go on exciting excursions. This popular excursion is a catamaran trip that sets sail from the Marina on the tip of Varadero. Spend an unforgettable day sailing off the coast of Cuba to an island where you will enjoy some Cuban cuisine (including lobster!). Enjoy basking in the sun or snorkelling off the back of the boat in the warm tropical waters.
Don't be fooled by the Canadian flag on the catamaran! They added this to make us feel at home. The back of the boat reads "Cardenas" which is a town close to Varadero. The crew took great care of us and were quite entertaining throughout the trip, with fun music and dancing. We booked the entire boat for our family and friends. But you can also travel with a group of other adventurers and share your stories.

There are rental cars available for tourists to use. However sometimes it is easier to arrange for taxis to get you to and from excursions and beaches. Let us know what you prefer and the CasaCuba team will make the arrangements.
