From sailors securing ropes on a ship to campers setting up their tents, knot tying plays a crucial role in everyday tasks.

Knot tying is more than just securing things – it’s a universal language, a brain-boosting exercise, and even a competitive sport! It’s a skill that connects people across cultures and time periods.
From survival to art, knots have endless uses and meanings. They’re essential for fishing, rescue operations, and even therapeutic for reducing stress. Knot tying is a fascinating skill that’s both practical and deeply rooted in human history.

Believe it or not, there are thousands of different knots with various applications. From simple knots like the figure-eight knot to complex ones like a monkey’s fist knot, each knot has its specific purpose and functionality.

Fun fact! When referring to boat speed, the word knot originated from an antiquated form of measuring speed on a sailboat. Sailors would tie knots in a rope at an equal distance apart, and throw a flat board connected to the end overboard. The board would create drag and sailors could measure the distance that the rope went out over a specific period of time.

The Corinth Canal, though only completed in the late 19th century, was an idea and dream that’s dates back over 2000 thousand years. It saves the 700-kilometers (430 mi) journey around the Peloponnese! The strip of land that connects the Peloponnese and mainland Greece is called the “Isthmus”. At its narrowest point, it is only 4 miles wide, and in ancient times, one could see from one side to the other.

What is the difference between a ship and a yacht? The fundamental difference is that the ship has a class, and the class – especially the class of a passenger ship – provides for compliance with the international SOLAS Convention on maritime safety. That is, the ship must have lifeboats and rafts for the double number of people on board, autonomous fire extinguishing systems, buoyancy support systems in case of hull breakdown, and much more. The class inspectors constantly check all the ship’s security systems and issue the appropriate documents. Of course, passenger safety is above all for us. But if this safety is officially confirmed, for some reason it is calmer and more pleasant for us and our passengers. Have a good trip on Running on waves!

Not only is our ship a vision of beauty, but we’re also proud to be eco-friendly. Sails being our main driving power, we boast unbeatably low fuel consumption, which is about 10 times lower than on a motor boat of a comparable size. Aren’t you curious about the names of our sails? There are three masts: foremast, mainmast and mizzen. Those triangular sails attached on the stays and bowsprit are called jibs. From outer to inner they are flying jib, outer jib, inner jib and fore topmast staysail, each contributing to our unforgettable voyage.

The answer is Christina O. She is a luxurious and unique yacht. Her exquisite shapes and lines, majesty, elegance and gloss drive both men and women crazy. She is 73 years old, but youth is still in her heart, and every millimeter of her is admired.
Over the past decades, her guests have been the arbiters of human destinies, aristocrats, famous politicians and movie stars. She was owned by the famous Greek billionaire Aristotelis Onassis, she was his pride — this yacht is named after his daughter Christina.
Once, on board the Christina O., Jacqueline Kennedy, who arrived there with her husband Robert, became intimately acquainted with Aristotelis Onassis, who on October 20, 1968, 5 years after the assassination of Robert Kennedy, became Jacqueline's second husband. The wedding reception was also held on board the Christina O. Another star couple, Grace Kelly and Prince Albert, also spent their honeymoon on it.
