Welcome to the last part of our New Build series. How long does it take to build such a ship? Iwan: “From the cutting of the first steel at the shipyard in Serbia and transport to the Netherlands to the finishing and delivery in Hardinxveld-Giessendam, you have to count on a year and a half. We have been fortunate for many years to be able to work together with a number of valuable partners, who make it possible to build the most beautiful ships with us again and again in a short period of time.” Bart: “We work on several ships at the same time. While one ship is being finished, the hull of the next ship is already being built. Of course we have to do that if we want to deliver three new ships every year. And in between, we also renovate some of our current ships. 51 years ago, in 1973, André & Martha Reitsma bought a tugboat, converted it into a river cruise ship and named the ship “Scylla.” Meanwhile, Scylla grew into one of the leading companies of luxury river cruise ships in Europe. Each ship is designed and built entirely in-house, making Scylla unique in the industry. Earlier this month, the 40th ship was delivered, MS Porto Mirante, which will sail on the Portuguese Douro. And that's not all, as Scylla plans to build at least 3 new ships a year through 2027. So a big challenge awaits Scylla's “New Build” team.
