Deborah, my sister, is swimming 5 km for Child Bereavement UK. Please donate whatever you can to help this cause.

Sadly, in the UK, 127 children are bereaved of a parent every day. That's why I'm raising money to help families rebuild their lives. Just £36 could fund a call to Child Bereavement UK's Helpline, providing guidance and support to bereaved parents, teachers, doctors or midwives. I'm committed to swimming 5k this September for Child Bereavement UK. Any donation you can give, no matter how small, will help to make a difference. Thank you.

Here’s a little bit about me, as my ‘other’ persona - writer of (mainly) women’s fiction, Sarah Catherine Knights

I’m a British novelist and live in Malmesbury, Wiltshire. I’ve lived here since 1985, with my husband, Peter and three children and various dogs. The reason we moved here was because Peter was in the Royal Air Force and we were posted to RAF Lyneham. We were then posted to RAF Akrotiri, Cyprus at the beginning of the nineties, which was to prove a catalyst for my writing.

I’ve had various careers during my life – secondary school English teacher, financial advisor, portrait and wedding photographer and teacher of English as a foreign language to business people. It took me sixty years to realise I should have been a writer all along, but having started, I now can’t stop.

I did an MA in Creative Writing at Bath Spa University in 2012 and I’ve now self-published eight books. One of them is a children’s book, based on my current Labrador, Mabel’s, obsession with balls. It’s called ‘Marvellous Mabel and her Amazing Ball’ – but my main genre is Women’s Fiction. I love writing about families and relationships, secrets and tensions; about female friendships and emotions … and women’s resilience. The ‘Aphrodite Trilogy’ is set in Cyprus, as is ‘The Life Series’. My standalone novel, ‘Love is a State of Mind’, is set closer to home, in Bath, but it also nips over to Australia.

I’ve just released my memoir, ‘Love, Honour and Annoy’ - a humorous reflection on my very long marriage. I’m now working on a new novel, with the working title, ‘Cyprus Sunset’ and a book of short stories.

My three children have flown the nest, of course, but often come home for chaotic weekends of dog walks, laughter and noisy meals around the large kitchen table. The whole family have been very supportive and patient with my late career change as a novelist, always willing to help with the plot or reading a new draft.

I love reading and always have a book on the go: Clare Chambers, Ann Tyler, Kristin Hannah, Elif Shafak, Matt Haig, Jeanine Cummins, Meg Mason and David Nicholls are just a few of the authors I’ve read in the last few months. I’ve just started ‘Demon Copperhead’ by Barbara Kingsolver.

I love modern music and listen to Coldplay, Sam Smith, Billie Eilish, Tom Walker, George Michael and Ed Sheeran, just to name a few! On the active side, I love walking, swimming (in the sea if possible, but I do lengths in the pool to keep fit) and going to the gym; I spend hours ambling through the surrounding fields with Mabel and as I walk, I think about my next writing project. I’ve always had dogs and can’t imagine life without one.

So, tomorrow, Monday, 1st July, sees the publication of my memoir, 'Love, Honour and Annoy' on Kindle. (The paperback is coming very soon. Watch this space.)

I'm excited and a little nervous! This is a complete departure for me: nonfiction, personal and humorous. I would love you all to take a punt and read it and even review it for me. It's always difficult when you first publish a book, when it has zero reviews.

I'm hoping some of you may enjoy it – I certainly loved writing it. It gave me the opportunity to reflect on my life and wonder how we've got so old. In my head, I'm still twenty ...

By the way, Peter has given me his full permission to take the mickey out of him, which I have done, relentlessly. But ... I also do the same to myself, so I don't feel too guilty. Life's too short to be taken too seriously. You may as well laugh at it.

If you don't like it, keep it to yourself. If you like it, tell your friends and give it a 5* review.

If you want to risk reading it, buy it here: https://amzn.eu/d/04lD6pYB

Have you ever wondered how on earth two people can be together for fifty years? It seems like a miracle to me and I’m living it.

In 'Love Honour and Annoy', I try to figure out how Peter and I have survived such a long partnership. We met, by chance, in 1970 and despite me getting cold feet and postponing the wedding for a year, we got married in 1976 and embarked on this incredible journey together. Spoiler alert: it hasn’t all been love and roses. We’ve annoyed each other intensely a lot of the time, but we’ve also been best friends, produced three amazing children and found our way through the bad times.

This memoir doesn’t reveal the secret of a perfect marriage, but our stories will hopefully make you laugh and you’ll see why, despite everything, we're better together. It is a humorous and heartfelt reflection on life and marriage, from the perspective of a seventy-one year old woman, who feels she’s only just getting started.

Pre-order 'Love, Honour and Annoy' on Kindle today. A funny memoir that will make you think about the inevitability of getting old.

Paperback coming soon.

Sometimes you have to go with your gut and change a cover.

For those of you who haven’t read it yet, ‘Love is a State of Mind’ is a humorous and uplifting story about getting a second chance at life.

Even though I wrote it, I really love it (I re-read it recently and because I’m always working on my next book, I’d sort of forgotten it - which is weird, I know).

I wanted the cover to reflect its positive view on life and also mirror some of the trends in women’s fiction covers. I noticed in my ‘stats’ that the conversion rate for this novel was good - ie - when people read the blurb, they bought it. So, in order to attract more people to click on it, it needed a better cover.

I love the vibrant colours and the swifts flying away to warmer climes.

I’d love anyone who reads this to share my post, so it gets seen by more people! Thank you in advance x

If you want to read something that will make you laugh (and maybe cry) and give you hope for the future, give it a try. It’s not about Cyprus this time - but there’s a long section set in Australia.

Emily Blackwell is out of her depth.

It’s 1991– a time before the internet, cheap air travel and long-distance phone calls. Emily is cut off from everything familiar.

Her husband, Luke, is an Air Force officer and the family have been posted to Cyprus. Emily is glad to have escaped her job but misses her family and friends. In order to survive in this new environment, she knows she must change and so she reinvents herself and embraces everything the island has to offer.

When she befriends Sophie and Sam, her life takes a turn for the better, but a chance encounter with an army officer leads her down a road over which she has no control. Emily loses her moral compass and becomes a version of herself who cheats, takes risks and forgets who she truly is. Luke too has a secret and when all the lies are uncovered, their life together spirals out of control.

They have to face up to the consequences of their actions and the havoc they have caused – but is it too late to stop the break-up of this once-happy family, or will the Mediterranean have claimed it as its victim?

I have been very quiet on here recently but I've been working hard on various exciting projects.

The one that I can tell you about today concerns Aphrodite's Child, the first book in the trilogy. It was first released in February, 2014. I actually can't believe it's been out for almost 8 years! In that time, I have sold thousands of copies of it and it has accumulated 98 four star reviews. I'm very proud of this, considering I had absolutely no help from anyone! Unfortunately, books can sink without trace on Amazon but I feel that Aphrodite's Child made a little ripple in the sea of millions of books on there.

They say 'writing is editing' and I have re-visited the manuscript many times, tightening both the plot and prose. I think it is now in its final form. I also re-wrote the blurb on the back cover, which now reflects its more 'modern' approach.

I felt that the book deserved a really great cover and for the first time, I sought help and employed a professional cover designer. Patrick Knowles was amazing and really made me think about what the book is about! That may sound odd coming from the author who wrote it, but sometimes you need an objective eye to help you focus and after a lot of discussion and to-ing and fro-ing with designs and ideas, I'm thrilled to say it's ready. The cover cleverly sums up the book and it now sits so much better within its genre. The vibrant colours of the sea are eye-catching, as is the girl in her bright yellow costume.

So ... I will be re-launching the book a week today.

In the meantime, if you have friends who would enjoy the book, please share this post. Aphrodite's Child is set in Cyprus in the early nineties. If you'd like to escape the grey days of January 2022 and go to the sun-drenched island without the hassle of lateral flow tests, PCR's and hours in an airport, just buy the book and be transported to a time before the internet, Whatsapp and cheap Easyjet flights and ... the pandemic.

Life was simpler back then!

"Love is a State of Mind" - another FANTASTIC book from Sarah Catherine Knights ♥♥♥♥♥

"Loved this book. A real page turner. Full of real emotion, ups and downs but with a message of hope. Fantastic!" ★★★★★ J.R

Both funny and moving, it follows the life of Anna McCarthy, who is a teacher and has been married for years. When her husband,David, tells her he has fallen in love with someone else, she has to re-evaluate everything.

She makes some huge changes, both at home and at work. She decides to visit her estranged sister in AUSTRALIA and while she's there she gets a new perspective or her past, her present and her future.

Along the way, she faces tragedy, new love and surprising revelations ...

But most of all, she learns to accept her new life without bitterness and realises that behind the Facebook facade, nobody’s life is perfect.

"Centred around a middle-aged teaching couple with a grown-up up family living in middle England, the story takes the reader through the emotional turmoil of life-changing events, so accurately described that I wanted to reach out and hug those affected. Many of us have experienced the issues that make up the story and the writer captures the feelings and emotions of the characters so well that they feel so real. It's not often I cry when reading but this novel got me. Definitely recommend along with the earlier books." ★★★★★ Tommy Dog

"The anguish of a wife and mother deserted for a younger woman and the emotional crisis this causes is told with great insight. Many women will identify with the challenges she faces. It's hard to put down this book as you follow the turmoil in her life as she tries to create a new and rewarding future for herself." ★★★★★ SMD

APHRODITE'S CHILD, the first book in the Aphrodite Trilogy, is FREE TODAY! If you haven't already read it, now is the time to give it a try. While we're all freezing cold and locked in, let the novel transport you to the beautiful island of CYPRUS. It has 93 4* reviews. GIVE IT A GO!
Cyprus 1991
Emily Blackwell is an RAF officer’s wife and has never fitted in with military life, but when her husband Luke is posted to Cyprus, she sees it as an escape from a job she hates and maybe somewhere she can have her longed-for third child.
The reality of living on a military camp hits her hard - it’s a time before FaceTime, emails and WhatsApp and she’s lonely and cut off from her previous life.
When she makes friends with Sophie, her life takes a turn for the better: she begins to throw herself into the social scene. The new blond-haired, tanned, slimmer version of herself embraces everything that Cyprus has to offer.
But Luke’s love of all things Air Force, his desire to restrict their family to two children and his off-hand ways, culminate in her finding love in someone very different.
After a terrible tragedy that befalls them all, her life on the island begins to unravel. Trust is broken, friendships shatter and Emily is torn between her family and forbidden love.
She has fallen in love with Cyprus, the lifestyle and … another man but she’s lost herself. Can she find herself again before it’s too late?
“I absolutely loved this book and cannot recommend it highly enough.”
