Η Καμηλόστρατα στην Σαλαμιου σήμερα υποδέχθηκε δωδεκαχρονους. Ονομάσαμε τους εαυτούς μας πρώτα και ακολούθως τα στοιχεία του τοπίου. Ξεκινησαμε απο γενηκότητες μα στην πορεία προέκυψαν βαθιές εντυπώσεις ("Εμεις τωρα το βλέπουμε αλλά για τους τότε ήταν δουλειά!" διαπίστωσε ένα αγόρι. " Το 'όμορφο' που να το βάλω?", Το sh στην αθασιά πως γράφεται?") Στα σχεδια τους ορισμένα ζωγράφισαν τον άνεμο ανάμεσα στις αμυγδαλιές.

Ομαδα Terract (με τις ωραίες μας κίτρινες φανέλες!) χθες στις Ευρωπαϊκές Μέρες Κληρονομιάς Ξερολιθιάς Κύπρου. Τοποθεσιά: Χώματα Ιννιας πάνω από τον κόλπο της Λάρας. Οι εξαίρετοι μοναδικοί μας Σαλαμιώτες μάστορες ο Παναγιώτης, ο Αργύρης και ο Αντρέας μας δείχνουν στην πράξη την άυλη τέχνη της δόμησης ξερής πέτρας κατά την αποκατάσταση ενός "στιαδιού".

Our master drystone wallers from Salamiou, Panayiotis, Argyris and Andrea's showing us just how intangible restoring a "Stiadi" or traditional drystone field shelter is. Η Τροοδία Χριστοδούλου στη φωνή και ο Αντρέας Γερολατσίτης στην κιθάρα μας προσκαλούν σε μια αλλη εποχή πιο τρυφερή και ρομαντική. Τραγούδια όπως 'Της μιας δραχμής τα γιασεμιά, Ποσο λυπαμαι, Τι είναι αυτο που το λενε αγάπη ' νοσταλγουν την αθωότητα και την αλήθεια της αγάπης, τότε που τα συναισθήματα εκφράζονταν με απλότητα και ειλικρινεια.

Date: 27th October 2024 "Birds of Salamiou"
15.30-15.40 – Presentation on the significance of terraced landscape habitat, by a representative of Birdlife.
15.40 – 15.50 - Secondary School students of Salamiou will present their initiative in collaboration with Bird-life and the educational team of Terrace Landscape Heritage, which involves their creation of decorated bird-nests.
The decorated bird-nests will be on display and will be placed in natural habitat terraced trails at the closing cultural event on the 2/11.
15.45 – 17.00 – Guided tour to ‘Kamilostrata’ (walking distance is under 2 km including return). A commemorative inaugural plaque will be placed.
17.30 Return to Lagria tavern for refreshments and live music.

Event 2: Afternoon H Kαμηλόστρατα – Ιστορικές ξερολιθικές διαδρομές Σαλαμιούς (Kamilostrata – Salamiou’s historic terraced routes)European Heritage Trails Inauguration
Date: 27th October 2024
Location: West entry of Agia Varvara Church (Lagria Tavern and Theme Centre
Time: 15.00 - 15.30 – Presentation by REPS/ Urban Planning Department
The Historic Preservation Department will present The European Heritage routes of Salamiou in association with the European Dry Stone Network Association (The Association was created in 2018 in awareness of the need to protect, restore and promote the European drystone culture).
Today, the association aims to create a Europe-wide cultural route and obtain the “Cultural Route of the Council of Europe” certification.
The Kamilostrata (or Camel Road) has been selected and was used to transport viticulture produce, cotton and other terrace products. It is one of three historic routes in Salamiou territory which have been mapped through a private local initiative and submitted to the European Dry Stone Network Association. A photographic exhibition together with other artefacts of the two other routes (the Apostolic Olive trees, 4.5 km NW and the ‘Great drystone wall enclosure, 3 Km SE) as well as a collection of special artefacts of the area which will be on display at the small Theme Centre at Lagria tavern.

Event 1: Salamiou’s historic terraced routes:
“Walk In the Footsteps of the Apostles" Date: 27th October 2024
Time/ gathering point: 8.30 at Village square, Lagria Tavern
Hike along the nature trail to the ancient Apostolic olive grove
(4.5 – 5 Km along uneven terrain).
Point out interesting habitat/ heritage constructions/ geology along the way: Vrisin tou Karamanou/ Roman road/ white chalk terraces, bird’s and bee’s nests in drystone walls/ colonial road right/ Kantara ridge/ Stiadi tou KOUMI ruin (tou Neofytou and stiadi tou Lazarou)/ The walking Terebinth tree (Tρέμυθος ) / Elia tou Athanasi, other toponyms.
Argyris Panayiotou and Sevina Floridou will lead.
You are advised to wear hiking boots and bring a hat, snacks and water.

"Not Just Stones" Drystone restoration Workshop 1
Date: 26 October 2024
Location: ‘Kamilostrata' path.
Time/ gathering point: 9.30 am – West entry of Agia Varvara Church (Lagria Tavern)
10.00 -13.00 – Drystone introduction and building
13.00-13.30 – Lunch picnic (finger food snacks/water/soft drinks provided by Lagria Tavern
13.30-15.00 - Drystone building
Invitation to Olive oil festival in the neighbouring village of Ayios Ioannis (food will be sold)
The drystone training workshop is free and open to volunteers, local residents, Cypriot residents from wider afield as well as foreign residents on the island, and also visitors, families, students in higher education. All ages welcome. No previous experience is necessary.
It will be held on the Kamilostrata route, just north of the Salamiou’s village center(34 50.67623N,32 41.42753E). The restoration of the bordering drystones was begun during the European days of Terraced Landscape in 2023. Restorative terracing will continue with the aim of completing this stretch. The craft of terracing will be taught by brothers, Panayiotis and Argyris Panayiotou together with other local stone masons. The introduction to terrace building will be presented by heritage architect Sevina Floridou.
